MRI for claustrophobic patient.

I need an MRI but am claustrophobic. I'm told there are no MRI's with big bore for this and not feet first entry with head outside machine. Help!

The first time I had one (many years ago) I didn't know I was claustrophobic until I was slid in with the "roof" of the MRI about 1 inch above my nose. I immediately startedto remember the Edgar Allan Poe story "The Premature Burial". LOL

However, I had them place a thin towel/sheet over my face so that I did not see how close the roof was and how "entombed" that I was. Then it was fine. Now I don't even need that. I just take a few deep breaths before entering the "graveyard".

They can also give you relaxants if you need them.
