Elderly Response to Radiation & Chemo

I’m 79yrs old, had EC and was lucky Chem & Radiation was enough to eradicate the cancer.
Afterwards my esophagus closed up and could eat food that my wife placed in the food processor.
I started dilations, after 5 dilations it wasn’t getting better.
The radiation left my esophagus full of scar tissue and
the endoscope couldn’t get thru.
We decided to have a stent. Which will be done this week.
I’m nervous thinking it’s going to feel like I have something stuck in my throat. They are thinking 4-5 wks then remove it.

@chubasdad, how did you do with the stent? Will it be removed soon or already been removed?

I had several stents. At first they can be very uncomfortable but you gradually get used to them. You need to be extremely careful when eating certain foods. The stents will move. I had a couple end up in my stomach and have to be removed. One they never did find. The doc said I must have passed it. I no longer use them as I self dilate my esophagus at home. Good Luck.
