Pregabalin use and side effects statistics generation
We all have heard from various sources that Pregabalin/Lyrica and Gabapentin may cause cognitive decline and memory loss. Since there is lot of actual data within us here in this support group, how about if we create a database with years of use and extent of cognitive decline if any? If people here are willing to share this I will create an input form which people can fill and submit . We can then get real data on the side effects. Pl comment.

I had been taking Gabapentin 300mg X3 daily for years with no memory loss (short term or long), just constipation issues. My pain management doctor switched me to Pregabalin back in April 2026, first at 75mg X3 daily, and then to 150mg X3, and now 200mg X3, also with no memory loss of any kind. I seem to be tolerating it quite well. I guess maybe check back in a year for long term effects.

2 ReactionsI take 800mg Gabapentin 4 times a day in conjunction with 75mg pregabalin. Just started the pregabalin. I have some brain fog and memory loss but I am also 77 years old. I have had neuropathy for 30 years and have tried everything for pain. I also have a Nalu nerve stimulator implanted. Nothing takes the pain away!

2 ReactionsVery sorry to hear that. I understand how that feels…when (in terms of years after starting these meds) did the brain fog and memory loss start?

1 ReactionAny submission would need to include a declaration of other medications taken. Example: I take a statin as well as pregabalin and it is claimed that statins also cause cognative decline.

1 ReactionI’d be interested.
Currently research from NIH and other well known medical organizations have not found any connection with any cognitive loss due to Gabapentin or Pregabalin use over a certain age group.

2 ReactionsVery good point! I didn’t know statins could cause cognitive decline! I know of many people who take that and are fine as of now. Also percentage of population who take statins are orders of magnitude higher than those who take Lyrica etc.
@marietter
But there has been lengthy discussion on this support group to the contrary! Probably because of which a lot of people , like me, are hesitant to take it regularly. Clearly more statistical analysis needs to be done in this area.
