High Vitamin B6: How can I lower it?
I have a high Vitamin B6 level but have never taken vitamin supplements. Has anyone had this happen to them. I have no idea how to lower it.

1 ReactionI just received my labs from my patient portal as well. I also don’t supplement but have b6 toxicity. Mine is 97.3.
I am struggling with severe brain fog , numbness and pain. I go talk with Dr on Tuesday.
Do you mind sharing your level?
I see this is an old post curious to how you made out and if you were able to lower your level
do be cautious about random websites for any medical information including vitamin B. Best to look at reliable sites such as National Institute of Health, WebMD, Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic etc. Good luck.
@lynnn Late last year I suffered various mysterious neurological, symptoms, and a clever docyor I consulted (I had already consulted without success) ran a blood test and discovered that my Vitamin B6 levels were 600 times normal. All I was taking at the time was 1 daily multivitamin supplement. Read the labels on the food you buy. Many, many common foods such as breakfast cereals, bread, all sorts of procesed foods have added B6. By the time you add up how much B6 you are getting from your food alone, it might be ridiculous to think of even taking a multivitamin which could push you over the limit. My doctor's advice - throw away all those supplements , if you are eating a normal Western diet you are very unliely to be defficient in any vitamin or mineral. If you fel you could do with something extra, then make an appointment with your doctor, have your blood levels tested, and stop wasting money and damaging your health by self-prescribing or believing all you read on the internet. It might interest you to know that here in Australia, the Government has just taken all Vitamin B6 supplements off pharmacy shelves. Please look after yourself...

1 Reaction@ellu Thank you. However I am very cautious about any information on random sites and trust the ones I mentioned from well known clinics and particularly National Institute of Health. These are in the U.S. I do take B6 because I am vegetarian, and my foods have little if any. Meat eaters would not need extra B6 as meat has plenty. So you are right - for meat eaters. They should not consume extra. I wonder how the govt. there suggests vegans and vegetarians get their B6 as foods they consume may have none. Interesting.
Thank you for pointing out vegetarians. Just goes to show, it is worth consulting your doctor and maybe getting a blood test before taking any supplements, "natural remedies" and the like before starting to self-medicate.
Herbs and supplements can be very important, but can also be toxic and interact with other medications. I will se e if I can find a copy of the Ausralian guidelines to snd to you. Best wishes, Ellen
