@tracestew I put the parts in room temperature water and bring to a boil over medium heat (my pan/stove combo take 12 minutes, so I set a timer for that.) Once boiling, I lower the heat to just keep it bubbling and boil for 10 minutes by the timer. Then I shut the heat off, remove the parts to a clean paper towel where they dry in a flash because they are so hot.
This is all based on tradition, and there may be easier & shorter methods. Dr Jennifer Honda has a team studying exactly how often, how long, and in what device we can effectively sterilize. I believe preliminary results show baby bottle sterilizers and microwave steam bags are effect, and they are testing quite a few. The report should be out around the end of the year, so stay tuned.
PS Contrary to some advice InstaPot & other pressure devices are NOT recommended by the manufacturers because this may cause the plastics to break down even if they don't actually melt.
