Umbilical hernia repair: laparoscopic or open repair?

Hello @invisiblepain2, I've had the open repair surgery for a bi-lateral inguinal hernia but I already have neuropathy and laparoscopic wasn't an option for me. I did find a small 2003 study that indicated laparoscopic had less complications.

"Conclusions:
LR results in faster RTNA, and lower complication and recurrence rates compared with those in ORWM. Patients with larger hernias and previous repairs benefit from LR."

Tagging @shawnkthryn, @pht1123, @pht1123, @amalynne69, and @jan70mess have mentioned having a umbilical hernia repair and may have some experience to share with you on laparoscopic vs open umbilical hernia repair.

Hello!!

Thank you so much for your response. Does this also apply to umbilical hernia? Like the chances of neuropathy with open repair? How painful was your recovery?
