Terrible leg pain
Started as leg pain in thigh burning n really bad pain.just had mri n just showed little tear,that won’t cause this pain.n nothing found as sciatica pain.getting hip mri on the 6th.this is terrible,to the point hard to sit or anything

@troubleontheline Welcome to Mayo Connect. Sorry to hear about your pain. As I type this I am sitting on an icepack to try to relieve the pain in my thigh & shin, all the way to my toes. Ortho says it is the bones in my spine pressing on nerves where the discs are gone.
I get some relief from gentle stretching, ice and anti-inflammatory meds. Probably headed for a guided injection to calm the nerve.
Have you tried sitting on a large ice pack?

6 ReactionsI started the same way with pain about 5 years ago. Doctors thought it was vascular and I had 2 very painful nerve conduction studies. Had MRI at Mayo and it is spinal stenosis. I opted to try the injections instead of surgery and I am so glad I did because they really have helped.

2 ReactionsCould be the MRI did not see the full scope of the muscle tear, showing only a small tear when it was much larger. So, what pain meds are you on, and has your doctor prescribed any potent ones that are not working? What event or accident was the cause of the tear, and how long have you been feeling this intense pain? Is there a position when sitting or lying down where the pain level is it tolerable?
@sueinmn There is no reason to wait for a radio frequency ablation so the pain from the vertebrae to the brain can be temporarily stopped. But, before they can do that, they will have to perform probably two medial branch blocks to identify which nerves are the source of the pain. I just had the radio frequency ablation, and it worked very well. I'm walking well, doing a lot of yardwork, no meds before bedtime, good sleep, etc. I'm 78 years old, male. All was covered by Medicare HMO Scan Venture plan except for very small co-pays.
@laughlin1947 The wait is for the required imaging and an appointment. My doctor is sure the procedure will be covered once we get to that point.
Unfortunately, even in our major medical market, there is a shortage of non-emergency imaging appointments. The scheduler is trying! I may end up having to accept an appointment at some crazy hour like 10pm or 5am, and potentially miles from home. Trying to be patient.
