Anyone Experience Sweating While Eating?

Posted by bajjerfan @bajjerfan, Jul 29 1:53pm

Lately [the last couple of months] I've noticed that part way through a meal like at lunchtime I start to feel warm and then begin to sweat, mainly around the head and neck. It may last 5-10 minutes before stopping. It doesn't give any advance signals like hypoglycemia does. I don't experience any feelings. I have had many bouts of hypoglycemia and it's nowhere near the same feelings. I don't feel any different after the sweating stops. Not sure that this is the best group, but anyways has anyone else been through something like this. I did switch from taking Losartan to taking Telmisartan for BP control, but not sure how that could be the cause as I take it at bedtime.

I get it from having oatmeal with no flavoring and just lactose-free milk at lunchtime. I snack on raw veggies before lunch time.

Plus this afternoon 3-4 hours postprandial I started to get an uninitiated episode of hypoglycemia. I really didn't do any serious activity to bring it on. All I had for lunch was plain oatmeal with whole lactose-free milk. I didn't nip it in the bud, but did catch it early enough. Normally if I wait say 3 hours after eating and then go shopping, the walking around the store is enough to bring it on and I can almost make it happen at will. If I shop right after I eat it usually doesn't happen. I'm not sure if I overproduce insulin or when I do need it there isn't enough blood sugar to counter it.

This does sound curious! I’ve experienced something similar with hypoglycemia, but never hyperglycemia. What do you mean by “uninitiated episode of hypoglycemia”? Some people I know who have experienced panic attacks have described something similar. I’m NOT diagnosing, just brainstorming. Have you considered posting this to the Diabetes & Endocrinology group? Maybe members there have ideas and experiences to share.

Thanks I will post it there too. By uninitiated I mean not enough physical activity/exercise to cause my body to need to metabolize glucose for energy so it just sort of happens and it's sorta rare. Almost idiopathic in a way. I guess it was cream of wheat not oatmeal, but I frequently alternate between them. If I wait several hours after eating to do any walking, etc. I'm almost guaranteed to have a hypoglycemic attack. If I sense it coming on I slam down about 20 grams of glucose.

My blood sugar isn't high enough to produce symptoms of hyperglycemia.

@bajjerfan a half cup of oatmeal only had 150 calories. That’s not enough calories to function. Yes, it’s mostly carbs. I do know it’s not enough for me.

I usually have veggies as a snack and lately have been drinking a bottle of Premier protein shake. I feel myself running out of gas later in the afternoon. I don't ever recall starting to sweat part way through a meal. IMO not enough readily available carbs to initiate hypoglycemic symptoms. Sometimes I may have a small can of tuna or salmon as a protein source.
My only recent change is switching from Losartan to Telmisartan for BP control.

I’ve gone thru periods of sweating when I have a meal … primarily at dinner. Mine has nothing to do with diabetic reactions (high or low blood sugars). I think it is a couple of things for me … eating too fast & eating too much bread. I have an issue with bread … I feel so full with a couple of pieces (bread basket); I’ve started to pass on bread and rice (or portion control) and my sweating has decreased. I think it must be my digestive process and taking GLP1. You just have to try new food combinations. I rarely have the sweating issues with breakfast or lunch.

It's been a relatively recent thing so not sure what to attribute it to. Not sure that I've ever experienced it before that I can ever remember.
