It has been happening to me for several years now.. have tried many helpful activities... meditation, deep breathing, mindfulness etc.. I go to bed, feeling okay in the evening.. however, each morning I am greeted upon waking with the same feeling of anxiety , panic and a sad feeling,

That is what happens to me. My last 3 Anxiety/Depressive episodes over the last 8-9 years have been that way. I have only had one doctor understand it. The rest act like they dont know what you are talking about. If you read about Melancholy Depression they mention the morning blahs and perking up at night.

I could have written this! My Doctor acted like she had never heard of it before! Sometimes it wakes me from a sound sleep!

Yes! You are the first person that has had this happen to them that i have talked to. Its horrible to be awakened by it.

It is really depressing to think you are better when you go to bed only to wake in the morning and have the depression and anxiety come back!

Have you found anything that helps?

Sometimes i also get awoken from a sound sleep too.

what do you do about it to help yourself?

I just came across this topic now.

I know EXACTLY what you are talking about.
When I was deepest in my last bout of Panic disorder, PTSD, major depressive disorder, which lasted for over 5 years, I woke up at about 3am ( if I even got to sleep) in a panic attack. If it didn't start at 3am, then it did start right when my alarm woke me up. I couldn't even get out of bed. I had to call work, say I was sick, then I would finally sleep like me a baby. I did go on long term disability, like I said for over 5 years, but I would dream of having to get up in time for work and wake up in a panic attack. Even though I've mostly recovered from that bout, and have been back to work for a year now, I have woken up with anxiety and couldn't get out of bed , but only maybe 2 or 3 times.
I'm still on psych meds, but it was counselling, meds, and TIME that pulled me through.

I feel our pain experiences are pretty common, yes, I awaken and also have terrible spasms in parts of my body because of my dystonia. Spasms that overtake my body, wake up all the time with pain in body. Kristina
