I am going to start Alpha Lipoic Acid @600 mg/d to determine...
if it is effective to address pain in feet from peripheral neuropathy. Should I expect to see a drop in levels of B-12 in serum? Should I begin supplementation now of B-12? What is consensus on this?

The R- ALA I take also includes Na (sodium). Each capsule is 300 mg of R-ALA and 80 mg Na. From HMS Nutrition bought from Amazon.
@cleveland26 Thanks! I will look for this.
@debeve
Yes, I have noticed a kind of yeasty smell. I think it's from the R-ALA I take.
It is not a bad odor, just very different. I also take benfotiamine and started acetyl l carnitine as well. They may be causing this change.

2 ReactionsWelcome @donjaitken, there are several discussions about neuropathic itch that you might find helpful like this one:

I've used Dermeleve anti-itch cream with some success but I don't have the real bad itching that some folks mention.

1 ReactionThough studied since the 1950s, good evidence of ALA efficacy in peripheral neuropathy remains equivocal. The best results seem to be with intravenous forms. ALA has very low bioavailability. This can be enhanced to some extent by using the R isomer and taking it with lecithin on an otherwise empty stomach. There is some evidence that it has synergy with B12 and benfotiamine (again most likely considerably more bioavailable via IV route).
@donjaitken Do you think the itching is because ALA?
I have some itching in my legs but I never thought it was because ALA. I am using Aveno and it is helping.
@amota No I dont think the itching is from taking ALA ,I itch all over, hard to scrach the middle of my back . I use varity of Antich creams. which help a bit
@proteusx it’s essential that you use the R form of ALA
