Where to stay near Mayo Clinic FL with family (and fishing)?

Posted by ajslatter @ajslatter, Jul 19 8:51am

Hello, I have 4 days of appts at Mayo clinic Jacksonville next month for EDS program. My husband and two kids (8&11) are coming with me, we are driving down from the upper peninsula of Michigan. My family loves to fish. We are stuck on where to stay. I would like somewhere walking distance to any body of water for them to fish while I'm at appointments if I take the car. But not too far from Mayo. We considered vilano beach because it's more rural, which is something we enjoy. We can't decide if staying at a hotel or Air BNB is the best option. Any insight is appreciated! A pool is a must! 🙂

I'm also tagging a few Mayo FL patients who are members here like @tkidd51 @randi013 @gfabricant @darienneadams @tbgreif625 @momma2lucy @marco88 @jc76 to see if they have any suggestions regarding accommodations for a family and maybe even fishing locations or things to do while you're in care at the EDS Clinic.

@ajslatter, when booking accommodation, be sure to mention that you are a Mayo patient. Many places offer discounts for Mayo patients.

Hey there—

I concur with everything above. It has been my experience that the Hampton Inn on beach boulevard is an excellent option we frequently use. They also provide a shuttle to the clinic. Also, there is a great extended stay on San Pablo just outside the entrance to the campus.

There are several options at town center which is only 10 minutes away. They also have a great mall there and tons of dining options.

Also, airbnbs at Jax beach are very reasonable and close.

I hope everything goes well.

Hampton Inn Beach Blvd is a great option and they offer discounts to Mayo patients. If really enjoyed the Pier at the beach. Good place to fish.

Vilano Beach is a great place to stay however, it would be close to an hour drive to Mayo. I agree with others who've spoken highly of the Hampton on Beach Blvd.

Hello Michigan folks. I feel you will appreciate the kind & excellent healers at Mayo/JAX & wish you well in travel & all health issues.
My friend who travels to Mayo/Jax for her many immuno issues, likes Margaritaville on Jax Beach . Another friend, whose child is seen at Mayo Jax, likes the Marriott on Jax Beach. My family & I have enjoyed Courtyard by Marriott walk to appts. from your room, & no issues with tough-to-scout out parking but hard to get in there as it's just two floors & books early. We expect to try the new-this-yr. Hilton also on campus- not as close as Courtyard. And we have also appreciated Marriott Res Inn nearby thru a loopy intersection on South San Pablo. Each of about seven various Air B & B's, all on Jax Beach, have been clean, safe & helpful, but after the fact, we've only returned to 1 once & on that return, we realized it was to small for our multiple-day stays. On hotels we always ask that notes indicate we want a quiet room, which means away from ice machine or elevator & 2nd floor so parking lot traffic isn't an issue. More best wishes

@jgaoffice I have stayed at the new Hilton on campus. It is very nice, great restaurant with more options than the On-campus Courtyard. It is a good bit further to walk but the shuttle runs frequently. Hard to beat the convenience of the Courtyard.

We stayed at a beachfront inn, right by the Jacksonville Beach pier. It was an old hotel with a bar and small restaurant on top, I can’t remember the name and but it was so enjoyable. We could see other more modern hotels down the beach. Very close to Mayo, maybe 10 minutes away?
