I guess I am fortunate what I mean is that I do not have any discomfort in my lower body just shoulders & wrist. Now I am also a cyclist & with the wrist pain it makes it a little difficult to ride the road vibration doesn't help matters at all. I do ride a racing bike & I do run 100 lbs in my tires which also doesn't help. I did 40 miles last Sunday & I really hurt in the evening, so the rest of this week I have kept it down to 20 miles/ride. We have to keep going & not feel sorry for ourselves. Now you said that you have been taking 6 mg of pred. my question is how many different doses of pred. are there? I have been cutting mine to get my 5mg.
Wow! I admire you for being able to ride that distance. In my younger days when we lived in Cerritos, CA, I would ride my 10 speed to Huntington Beach with my friends and take a dip in the ocean. Was only about 15 to 20 miles away but I always had my wife pick me and the bike up and take me home.
I know prednisone is available in 1, 2.5, 5, 10, and 20 mg pills. I think the cost is higher for some of them for whatever reason, not sure. Right now I'm using the 2.5 and 1 mg pills. The 1 mg pills aren't too easy to split but I get lots of practice. I think your pharmacist may be able to help you.
John thanks for the info on the pred. dosages. Well before moving to the mts. in AZ we lived in Corona & my rides were 100 plus every Sunday from May to Oct. & at least once a month it was a ride to San Diego. Now at my age I am just glad I can still ride, it is difficult living in the mountains it is either up or down the hills.
Thanks Roland. I had noticed a few back and forth comments between Connect members and I know they both mean well but it detracts from the purpose of Connect. I was hoping they might see this and be a little more respectful with each other.
Glad you are still doing OK with your PMR. I feel the same way about the dosage of prednisone - only the patient knows how best to adjust the dosage based on how bad the pain is from the PMR. I've been at 6 mg for about 3 weeks and in the next week I'm going to try to go to 5-1/2 mg to see if I feel the same. Right now my pain level is fairly low and tolerable, just stiff in the morning which is why I do 30 minutes on the exercise bike when I first get up to get the legs moving. I've never tried splitting the dosage between morning and evening. That may be something for me to try for a week to see if I can take 4 mg in the morning and 1 mg in the evening. I've gained a few pounds but that just means I need to focus a little harder on drinking more water before a meal and eat less.
