@h16027 PACs are common after an ablation, and I guess after a cardioversion.....apparently. PACs are benign until their burden (how many occur in a 24 hour period compared to the total number of beats) exceeds 3%. Then the morbidity rises, although not drastically and not dangerously...it just begins a steeper path on a graph.

Like atrial fibrillation, PACs are mostly benign, but they can bring on unpleasant sensations and other symptoms that makes treating them important and more urgent. The idea is to suppress both of them so that their total numbers are small and don't amount to an onerous 'burden' that begins to cause changes in the heart's structure and function....called 'remodeling'. People do live with permanent AF, and most do well with paroxysmal AF if all else is fine with them and if the symptoms are few and manageable. But you do want to watch for those changes that signal a heart in distress. So, you should be assessed frequently in the first year to ensure there isn't a hurried progression and loss of function and quality of life.
