My understanding from reading reviews is that (a) it doesn't work very well or at all, (b) it's very expensive, and (c) customer service is really bad, as in you'll have trouble cancelling your subscription. Don't do it.

If your hair loss is due to a vitamin deficiency, it might help. But, there are also other treatments. I’d get your vitamin levels checked first to get the baseline.

When I noticed hair loss I saw a dermatologist and have been on a prescribed oral medication for about a year. I did have a vitamin deficiency that I treated. I also had a scalp biopsy and blood tests to find the cause. I’m still exploring it and also seeing a hair loss specialist. If the cause is unclear, you try many treatments and hope they work. I was also prescribed a special shampoo and foam for my scalp. I’d get an evaluation early on. Good luck.

I’ve dealt with hair loss for years, I actually have male pattern balding which affects a small number of females, lucky me. The thinning out is at the temples so as you age it gets harder to hide, in my younger years I always had a high part line so my hair was fuller on both sides. I got teased a few times growing up and it was very hurtful but children can be quite cruel at times. I know for men they try to hide the thinness with a comb over but it doesn’t work too well for women. I’ve tried many products that claim to work but they never really did, one that does show results is Monoxidril, it’s topical so you rub it into your scalp, the downside is, it can affect the heart and if you stop applying it the new hair will fall out. I still have my hair and I’m 75, I have curly hair so it’s a blessing along with a good precision cutting hair stylist and it looks pretty good.

@frouke , thanks for that input. I was taking a prescription med that treats male pattern balding, even in women, which they don’t think I have, but was taking as aggressive measure. But had to stop due to side effects. I may try another drug in that family. It was called Dutasteride.

So glad you are doing well. I never heard topical Minoxidil causing problems. I take oral and so far it’s ok.

@celia16 , I think that it’s different for everyone, many people use it and don’t have any problems. I don’t really know of any medication that works really well but most things always seem to have some sort of side effect. I’m interested to hear how Dustasteride works out for you if you’re going to try it.

Speak with your doctor before potentially wasting your money on OTC products that usually don't work. A full blood workup may be in order and your doctor can recommend or prescribe something that would fit your needs.

I have ordered Nutrafol for women and gave it a few weeks try, it upset my stomach so I stopped. I’ve had no issue canceling the subscription. Look into the ingredient list, if you are taking other supplements, it might be too much of certain vitamins. Since I stopped, I still check to see what others think about its efficacy - not too many positives, possibly because it’s so hard to determine cause of hair loss in women. It’s expensive, so be aware of that. Good luck- I’m still working with my BHRT to maybe help me.

Yes, treatments can be expensive. I’m also taking daily Hydroxychloroquine, that is for inflammation. Only time will tell if it helps, but it has totally eradicated my muscle and joint pain. Maybe coincidental, but there’s no other explanation. I don’t have lupus.

I also use daily red light therapy. It was strongly recommended by my DO for hair loss. Time will tell if it helps, but it was expensive. I’m told I can get a refund if I’m not satisfied. So…….

The first product I bought for my hair loss was Biotin, I used it for three months and although it didn’t help me a lot I did notice a reduction in hair fall out. I learned later on that it can interfere with test results especially for thyroid but that’s all I know about it.

I like many older women have thinning hair. I have tried almost every treatment for years without improvement. No side effects tho. There may not be an identifiable cause that will help.
