I’m scheduled for knee replacement but read so many negatives ?
Im having full knee replacement very soon and researching I read so many negatives so for all of you who have had it, is it worth it ? I’m definitely concerned that I’ll be worse off by reading so many problems with pain, swelling and movement with knee replacements and maybe one should just put up with what we deal with now than adding pain and swelling into the mix.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Well that’s fantastic to hear, some positive good news. Very happy yours went so well. I don’t know where you are but here in Australia you need Top Tier Health Cover to pick your own surgeon and Hospital for joint replacements and it’s expensive so my level of Health Cover does not cover joints therefore I’m getting it done in the Australian Public Hospital System, it doesn’t cost you anything but you can’t pick the surgeon.
The hospital they picked for my surgery is at least a top one, lucky there, and my surgeon seems quite good at it as his reviews are all 5 star so hopefully I’ll be sweet . . . still it worries me though.

Yes that’s true so hopefully I’ll be one of the very lucky ones but I’ll definitely respond on here to let all the nice people who have replied to me know how it all goes.

Thank you for your comment. Yes I’ll definitely be giving it my best shot and getting back to living fast as possible.
I just hope I’m not one of the 3-5% they say that get infections somehow

Just be patient, keep the faith and have really kind upbeat helpers. My kids got me through it and kept reminding me of painful and disabled I was before the surgery and how much better I’d be once I recovered. I couldn’t walk more than a 1/2 mile and yesterday I walked 8 miles!

@andoman
Yes! Lower back.
It initially started only left side. I went to Mayo's Spine Center and they offered me physical therapy which I haven't started yet because I have been doing my own at home but they told me my complete spine is full of arthritis.
@andoman
Yes. Unfortunately. Still awaiting a call back for an appt with the surgeon at Mayo
It depends upon your definition of bad. Most studies have said somewhere around 90% of knee replacement recipients are satisfied, not equally numbers. If you mean 50% have pain during recovery, you are probably low in the other direction.
A TKR is a traumatic event. Even if the surgery is minimally invasive, the surgeon is still cutting off parts of two bones and attaching something artificial to them. If the surgery is traditional, as most still are, the surgeon also cut the tendon and muscle to gain access creating even more trauma. Once in there, the surgeon cuts and removes the ACL and often the PCL as well.
So one should expect some pain. But the end result is worth it. I recently had my six month checkup and my surgeon told me I had no limitations. Before the surgery I was in constant if endurable pain in my right knee and extreme pain if I stepped the wrong way from a nerve impingement caused by my severe misalignment. Now I can do things with my grandkids such as walking around the zoo for hours or going to a trampoline center with them.
