I’m scheduled for knee replacement but read so many negatives ?
Im having full knee replacement very soon and researching I read so many negatives so for all of you who have had it, is it worth it ? I’m definitely concerned that I’ll be worse off by reading so many problems with pain, swelling and movement with knee replacements and maybe one should just put up with what we deal with now than adding pain and swelling into the mix.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you for sharing your story, I wish you the very best.
Here in Australia we have free health care as well as paid healthcare and I’m on the Free Healthcare which means the whole surgery does not cost a single dollar, our healthcare is very good in Australia but you don’t get to pick your surgeon or hospital but lucky for me they tell me I’m going to the GoldCoast University Hospital here in Queensland which is a top hospital and the surgeon assigned for me seems good from reviews but the surgery is not invasive, it’s cutting muscle and right down the front of the knee . . I have been trying so many exercises to strengthen the muscles around the knee but I’ve probably made it a little more sore as over worked. I’m very nervous about this surgery and I’ve had a lot of surgeries the past 3 years, 1 big bowel surgery, 2 small bowel surgeries and one big get a mesh in my stomach and now this full on knee replacement, gee I just hope it’s going to go smoothly.

My pain is at night, stiffness all day everyday and if in my feet too much then my knee swells up and gives me big grief but if I take it easy and don’t do much it’s not too bad but that’s not living is it ?
My surgery is in 10 days and I’m nervous as hell, so scare I’ll become if the many who have issues and that will probably destroy me. I’m very fit, only 84kgs and trying to exercise the knee everyday as I do have a fair bit of muscle loss on that leg, had this bad knee a long time.
@vincentyu
Thank you for your input and my current knee is always swollen and only get about 50% movement as of the deformed knee from osteoarthritis so if I get 80-90% I’ll still be better off plus not to have pain every night would be amazing but I’m definitely struggling with the amount of negative reviews you read . . it feels like there are about 50% each way so I’m definitely wishing I’m on the right side of things.

Wow that’s a journey, the bowel blockage concerns me as I’ve had bowel obstructions and had major surgery, so I definitely know all about that. I take Movicol every second day . . no choice and the hospital will have me on it everyday while there.
I really hope this all goes well. My knee has caused me grief for over 20 years but of late it’s really bothering me, if I don’t walk much it’s not too bad, but once I’ve been on it too much it swells up big and hurts, deformed osteoarthritis knee with only about 50% movement so hopefully this will give me a lot more movement and no pain at night, obviously after the healing process but I’m told I’m in for a painful rough experience.

Well I’m not sure where you are but here in Australia we have public health system and everything is free, surgery, hospital and physiotherapy but you don’t get to choose your hospital or surgeon but at least I’m lucky to be placed in the GoldCoast University Hospital in Queensland and my signed surgeon has pretty good reviews but reading so many people have issues with knee replacements does worry me, well I’ll know about it in 10 days time, nervous !
@steveinarizona
I’d love the invasive surgery but here in Australia we don’t get to choose the surgeon as one is assigned to you in the public hospital system. You get assigned a surgeon and hospital so I know from research that my assigned surgeon cuts straight down the middle of the knee.
If you want to pick your own surgeon, then you must have the top ultimate private health care which is extremely expensive therefore I’m in the public system, it’s all free but you don’t get to choose your surgeon or hospital.
Very nervous now as 10 days to go.

Love all the advice you wrote.
I bought the RE3 Icepack so I’m sorted there. Have been trying hard for the past month to strengthen the knee but probably have made it a little more sore as it’s definitely a week leg, have muscle loss as it’s been a bad knee for at least 15 years.
I hope this all goes good for me, very nervous but I can’t live like this everyday can I so I just have to pray it all goes well

Thanks for the input and nice to read a more positive review, it’s nice to see some people are better off.
I’ve been training for this with exercises but it’s definitely mentally draining as very concerned as there are just as many negative reviews so a lot of people have issues with a knee replacement and some say best thing ever, I hope I’m a lucky one !

I don’t know where you are but zero cost for knee replacement surgery here in Australia through what’s called the public health system. You pay zero, it’s all covered by the government.
There is also top tier private health, then you can choose the surgeon and hospital, as for the everyday public person you get assigned a surgeon and hospital and lucky so far I’ve been assigned a very good hospital and the surgeon has great reviews so hopefully I’ll be lucky and get a good outcome but definitely worried a bit. I’ll know in 10 days, then I’m in for months of pain and dedication to getting back in action

Yours sounds worse than mine, but if I over walk or on my feet too long it’s bad, and every night I wake up in pain.
