Need a hip revision surgeon.
I need revision hip replacement surgeon. Please someone reply if you have had revision surgery of your hip and you are in a state near KY.
September of this year, it will be 2 years since my hip was done. Since then I steadily lost the ability to walk normally. After a few steps, the leg simply refuses to lift to take another step so I stop and wait a minute and then can step another few steps until it stops again. The joint burns with pain until I stop and rest. No metal testing was done prior to surgery although I am highly allergic to nickel. That testing was done about a year later and was okay they said.
I have had various tests like nerve testing; hyperbaric oxygen treatments; blood flow, and cardiac stress testing and hip aspiration. Since I'm 71, no one wants to take on a revision and specialists in my state will not do the surgery (and only 2 offices do them anyhow)
Did I mention the THR was done by the VA? I coded twice, had a blood transfusion and went straight to ICU.
It is not related to legal action or a desire for $$. I just want to walk again.
The last doctor I saw said I likely have a torn tendon and did not agree with his own radiologist findings. Now, I will next be heading to pool therapy.
Please, can someone offer advisement or recommendation? I really need help.

My recommendation is to forget about geography. Find the best revision surgeon you can find and go there. Most of the great ones (like mine) have travel practices and for a total replacement usually require the patient to remain in the location for at least a week.
Since you have a record of coding during the procedure, many if not all of the surgeons might decline to operate on you. You might want to inquire about that once you identify the potential revision surgeon.
Two recommendations for you: (1) Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN; (2) Keith Berend in Ohio (I have heard good things about him; not his brother). These are not too far away from you.

2 ReactionsYeah, my I agree with the poster above that says forget about geography. I can recommend UCSD orthopedic department where they do a lot of revision surgery. Do you want to find a surgeon that has fixed other doctors mistakes.
@steveinarizona Thank you so much. I will follow up with them. I appreciate the reply.
@loriesco TY for taking the time to reply. I have been reluctant to spend funds at my age but did go to Cleveland Clinic. I was disappointed with the non-care although they stated a torn tendon from what they noted.
I need confirmation as what is really going on as I have been told my all those I have seen different opinions. I really know how there are so many opinions since no doctor can "see" what is going on. I have Medicare and Tricare for life too. But likely here, my outcome may have been the same. I appreciate you!
@bug3 well then you should be getting better care!!! TRICARE for life is the best there is. I myself have Medicare and champVA. You should be able to get as many opinions as you need. You should also be holding them to account if you’re not getting good care. Or maybe I should say good enough care! I am a big advocate for my military friends and community and I’ve seen our military friends and community at times. Get the worst care from the VA. When I was younger, I was misdiagnosed on three occasions which led me writing letters to TRICARE and the Marine Corps to get my medical changed to go outside of the VA circuit. TRICARE is run by Humana and they are probably the best insurance company. These days Medicare has been gutted and it doesn’t provide the same things it used to you just have to get the overworked doctors to write for the prior authorizations to get you what you need. As far as transportation, that might be a hard one to get covered so if you can combine it into a vacation. Everybody needs a vacation even after worst of times! Good luck and I appreciate you too!
