Generalized motility disorder
I have reflux, gastric emptying delay and constipation and was recently diagnosed with generalized motility disorder.Omeprazole is helping my reflux and Motegrity was helping my constipation for about 5 weeks until it didn’t,now my constipation is worse and I’ve become laxative dependent and developed constant rectal pressure,is anybody out there in a similar situation with any advice?

@truthfinder uggg I have gastroparesis ibs, acid reflux, most of my adult life in early 20s and now im 71. I actually found a better probiotic and switched to that. Stonehedge sells it. I also occasionally take lincess, which helps. But dont need it too often. The Amazon gummie fiber chews help. 2 a day. But I get my days. Where im eating papaya enzyme like candy, every day is an adventure. I was doing well on 1 scoop.of collagen powder, grass fed. I only drink decafe coffee and decafe green tea. Several bottles of spring water a day. Also eliminated as much food with dyes as possible. Even my otc meds no dyes except the 2 gummies. Its all a process and sadly it changes daily. I do double up on my pro biotic if im having a bad day.

1 ReactionI have generalized motility disorder, reflux, moderate delay gastric emptying and dysnergic defecation.I was ok for 10 months with Omeprazole,Famotidine and Prucalopride,I was eating well just avoiding pork/beef and moving bowels fairly well.Last week, reflux non stop, lost weight fast, can’t tolerate solid foods, can’t poop,Miralax daily,GI doctor prescribed Voquezna for 24 hour acid coverage, only worked for 2 days, now reflux back,in ER for dehydration,my GI doctor prescribed Voquezna says all tests are done egd, colonoscopy, gastric study, defecography, manometry.I’m at my wits end, can’t live with this constant pain and discomfort and burning from abdomen to throat,I’m at a loss what to do next, hoping to see my GI doctor sooner with a plausible solution for me.I think I have SIBO from all these acid reducers, anybody have a similar experience with non stop reflux and PPO’s no longer working?

4 ReactionsI have not had such severe reflux. It is really tough when everything you eat bothers you. My reflux does not respond to nexium or the other reflux drugs, I do not have any answers yet, getting another work-up in a month. I have found the only food I can eat with out problem is raw vegetables or steamed vegetables. I can add protein,, with the best being non-meat sources. Water is my best drink, although I can tolerate other things if I also drink with water. Also, small meals. It is no fun, but it helps avoid the pressure and pain. I hope you find some answers and relief soon.

Good morning,
I am so sorry to hear you are dealing with so many health struggles. Reflux and constipation are miserable. My son suffered with both for most of his life (he's 28 now). We had several misdiagnoses and finally found a gastro who was able to solve the constipation and reflux issue. Since my son was so constipated, we tried everything. We had to do enemas, glycerin laxatives daily or he could go. He had been on Miralax most of his life, with no help. However, the gastro we saw recommended Miralax daily and to try prunelax tablets. You can get them OTC. The gastro said we could start with Miralax daily and 1 tablet of prunelax daily (could go up to 2 daily if needed). He also recommended taking a magnesium citrate supplement daily. For severe constipation, he said to keep magnesium citrate liquid in stock. Drinking half a bottle and seeing if we could get a BM, If he couldn't go in a half hour, he recommended finishing the bottle. That stuff really worked!
When I started my son on the Miralax and prunelax daily, he started have several bowel movements a day. We switched it to Miralax daily and prunelax 4 times a week (had to play around until we got the right dosage). After Keegan (my son) had been constipated for 20 years, he now has no issue having a BM. I would talk to your gastro about the possibility of using these. Since you have a couple of complicated diagnoses, I would not recommend changing until you speak with your doctor. Good luck!

1 Reaction@truthfinder I use to get reflux and constipation and my doc put me on Movicol which I still take to this day. Just add it into water and it works. Also if I find I’m a little more constipated than usual I drink some prune juice and this works very well.
