The first time I had a Tymlos injection, I did the full 80 mcg. After about 15 minutes, I had an intense back spasm, which worked its way up from the bottom of my spine, all the way up my back. It was the most intense pain I had ever felt. It lasted about 30 minutes, then it subsided. I lay on my heating pad and called my endocrinologist. My doctor told me to stay hydrated, take calcium supplements for a few days- about 500-600 mg of Citracal or equivalent meds, double up on Vitamin D. She said if this happened after second shot also and does not seem to be improving with these measures, to stop the med and we would try to get Forteo approved. I asked her if I could instead titrate up. I had read about that approach in this forum. She agreed. I spent about a week on 20 mcg, then moved up to 40, 60 and then 80. It took me about a month. The second night, the pain was much less. If pain the first night was a 9 (30 min), the second night it was about a 5 (15 min), and after that was 2 (1 min). At each new level, the pain started out about 3 and dropped to negligible after a few days. After about a month, the discomfort was minimal, and always passed quickly.

@miya19 those are the exact same symptoms I had plus it was a throbbing pain like my heart beat all the way to my head. This was a random shot in my second month of taking it. My providers want me to stop and they are switching to Prolia if it will be approved. I used a similar medication 20 years ago and it says you are not supposed to take it past two years. I completed the two years. Since this medication was different and it had been twenty years they decided to go a head with the Tymlos. Thank you for sharing at least I know now I’m not totally nuts.
