Transplant waiting time with live donor

I have the same question. My niece goes in for living kidney donation surgery at Mayo next week. My husband just received final approval for the transplant list. She is not a blood type match for him. He is O- which I understand is a rarer match. Now that he's live on the list and she's donating now, we wonder what the time frame looks like for him?

@annebeth, Welcome to Mayo Connect. I am happy to be at the computer and see your message pop up on my screen! This has to be an exciting and anxious time for you, your husband, and your niece.
Since your niece is not a match for your husband, she is going to be part of either a paired exchange (2 donors and 2 recipients) or a chain (more than 2 donors and recipients). Do you know which one? I'm wondering if that might be why you don't have a date for your husband's surgery.
I must confess that I didn't have a living donor, so I am not familiar with how the scheduling works. Will your husband receive his kidney transplant at Mayo? Mine was at Mayo MN in 2009.
I think that you could ask your husband's doctor what kind of a time frame might be involved.
Please let me know what you find out.
