Mattress recommendations
Hi! This is a very broad, open-ended question, but I'm hoping you might be able to help. I'm going to start looking for a new mattress for my bed because it does a horrible job at supporting my sacrum tailbone and low back. I get severe pain in those areas and having a bed where I feel like I'm constantly sinking in is not helping. I obviously want a mattress that is firmer and more supportive, but I have no idea what to try, and what to look for, and what to avoid. Is there a particular brand that really works for you, and what materials work best for pain. I currently have a twin bed, and my mattress is probably 15 years old, memory foam with gel, with the mattress topper made from those same materials.
Thanks for your suggestions! Amanda

@slarson14 After many years of looking at mattresses at great hotels I stayed in and was so impressed with the mattress, I found Beautyrest as the best. I ordered me a hybrid that is spring and foam. It’s wonderful. They can be a little costly depending where you shop but they are wonderful.

3 ReactionsI agree, look for the shop/s that take new mattresses & their bedding from hotel suppliers. Great savings if you can find one. Not used. Just stock that hadn't sold.
I have been using a CASPER mattress. All online then & easy to arrange. Their bedding quality is excellent. Some of the best built in features. They come in a box & expand when removed from. Their packaging.
Cotton bedding which washes well & is healthy.
Happy Sleepy Time to all.

Good to know they were cooperative with return, but Ive read many complaints about them.
Please let me know how much you paid to return and/or exchange.
Thanks!
Getting a mattress depends on your weight and sleeping position, preference is also included. If you are a side sleeper, you should get medium to medium firm depending on your weight. Back sleepers and Stomach sleepers needs more support for the hips so they should get medium firm to firm mattress.
It is a great feature for a mattress to have zoned support which means there are areas that are firmer/softer depending on the need of your body. Brands like Helix and Nolah has this feature, I especially recommend the Helix Dusk Luxe for a firmer option. You can check out their product here: https://mattressadvisory.org/go/helix-dusk-luxe/
Thanks Tanner. I'm not happy with the Tempurpedic firm mattress I have. I've lost weight, from 190 to 155 and have a truly bad lumbar spine. I feel like I sleep "on" this matterss, and so my lower back gets no support.
After a lot of research, I'm switching to the Helix Midnight Elite, which has all the features you mention and is very good for side sleepers.
My neurologist and orthopedic surgeon recommended a sleep number bed. I love it. It comes with a warranty and you can change out the sides and mattress. My mattress is foam but it is controlled by air. The coils in a regular bed hurts my back and hips. Had four left hip replacements with an actebulum fracture due to avascular necrosis. I was given a prescription so I didn’t pay taxes. My head and feet elevate. It helps with my asthma and the fluid buildup on the legs.
We have a Beautyrest Black Ice mattress and is phenomenal. Great for folks with pain. We got it at Mattress Firm in 2019. There is not one indentation in this mattress, no sign of wear and no sagging at all even after 7 years. If I am not mistaken it is a Hybrid Memory Foam. This is a smooth mattress on top....no buttons. We keep a mattress cover on it at all times. Well that's all the pros. One con is, it can be a little warm. I use sheets that are cool on Amazon.
Mattress Firm will let you return a mattress 1 time and you can get something else.
I bought a real soft and fluffy mattress that was like a marshmallow when I tested it in the store and it felt great....not so much after sleeping on it. My husband and I both had more aches and pains. We returned it for this one.
Mattress shopping is complicated as it is hard to pick out a mattress from just lying on it in the store for 5 minutes.
Wishing you the best on you search. Blessings & Prayers....
