New caregiver- ER advice!

Your experience sounds harrowing. That's a rough and scary thing and I'm sorry you had to go through that. You asked about ER preparation. I keep a clear page protector on my fridge with COPIES (no originals) of his Medical Directive, DNR, Medication list, medical history (year of occurrence of stroke, surgery, other diagnoses and outcome (recovered or current.) I have a list of his doctors with addresses and phone numbers. I have a copy of his insurance card and his name address and birthday, and my phone number. This is handy to give to EMS to give the hospital if he requires an ambulance, or drop off with him if I have to park at the entrance and then move my car once I leave him with able healthcare providers. It took a few trips juggling things to come up with this.

@cjme oh, that is awesome! I didn't think about medical records and such. I literally panicked and grabbed my purse and his wallet- that was it! I'll work on this now... I'll be all prepped for the next time for sure! Thanks so much.
