The role of isoflavones in augmenting the effects of radiotherapy

Interesting findings and studies done on effects of soy isoflavones on RT in prostate and some other cancers. There are many other studies out there but this commentary was the most comprehensive.
Of course, always consult your doctor before using any supplements during RT.

Well, I’m a data point of one, but I eat tofu daily (usually in a breakfast scramble dish) and drink soy milk (i’m allergic to dairy). I’m now 7.5 months post-IMRT for a local recurrence and have no lingering major side effects (so far…). The urge to go perhaps comes on a bit faster than before, but that change in urgency is not enough to cause me any problems. Impossible to say if my diet has been beneficial but it sure hasn’t been detrimental. Good to see studies on the the benefits of diet as well as exercise for combatting cancer. Thanks for posting.

3 ReactionsSounds to me like a smoothie with a base of soy milk for isoflavones, certain dark cocolate (non-Dutch processed cocoa or unsweetened dark chocolate from Lilly's?) for flavonoids, and frozen blueberries or the Triple Berry would be a great combination (this would simply involve me switching from almond milk to soy).
Thanks for the excuse!
