Welcome @hjh!
You hit the nail right on the head: Like you, "I...find that no one around me really understands what it's like [to be a caregiver of someone with congnitive deficits]." Quoting Satchmo:
"Nobody knows the trouble I've seen
Nobody knows but Jesus
Nobody knows the trouble I've seen
Glory hallelujah
Sometimes I'm up, sometimes I'm down
Ohh, yes Lord
Sometimes I'm almost To the ground
Oh yes, Lord."
Fortunately for us members of this support group, we are in this journey together--and we are lucky to have Colleen Young to be our leader. (Sorry, Colleen, that I haven't had time to accept your invitation to provide advice to newcomers. I will respond before the end of next week.) I'm sure that I speak for Colleen and many of the members when I say: Feel free to contact me privately, if you have a specific question or need information about available resources. So, if you find yourself "almost to the ground," you can count on us.

You have found support here because we do understand! Try to remember that and when your life feels like you are on a roller coaster or you're not sure why your husband is growling at you we have been there and are with you now!🙃
Connect

@hjh Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! I’m glad that you found us and are participating so soon! I think that you’re getting a good sense of this wonderful support group. Each member expresses a difficult experience they are going through and how it’s impacting them. Then most of the chimes in with support. This support can be either a tip on trying a different tactic or emotional support. This is a wonderful group of members who worked together for a common goal—caregiving.
Tell me, how did you find Mayo Clinic Connect?
