So sorry to hear this about a 6 year old!! I had a nissen in 2013... it was too tight and broke down. Then had a toupet fundoplication in 2015... which is a partial wrap. That didnt work either. Still suffering! Can't eat. Can't throw up. Full of adhesions. Positional pains. Can't gain weight back. Was 140 at surgery, now 105. (195 when I first started getting ill in 2009.) I REGRET both surgeries!! Please get all info you possibly can before having ANY other procedure. My next option is Mayo, but the damage is already done and I don't see life improving much... I am 58.
I am now 82, Had a failed Nissen 5 yrs ago... went to Mayo 2 months after the Operation because the locals could not figure out what was wrong... I lost 50 pounds by then... Mayo GI department doctor figured out what was wrong in a few hours..(Gastroparesis) and 3 tests... saw the nutritionist there ... The mayo doc prescribed 2 drugs... a Nexium generic.. and a mild anti-depressant (Mirtazapine) sp... that is supposed to make me want to eat... Eating is still a challenge.. everytime .. one has to be soooo slow.. so careful... cut up in tiny bites, chew very well, get used to your whole system working differently... Trail mix is my snack friend ... I eat it a lot...Ice cream... a little butter... but now I am 173 pounds..male, 5'10"..... so gained back about 25 pounds... If food gets "caught" it comes up with a foam easily... but that happens less and less frequently as time goes on ... One has to drink a lot of water.. as the water generated by the gastroparesis needs to be accounted for...I sneeze some when eating certain things...I drive my car when meeting folks.. so I can leave when I need to... because of GI issues.... when I eat I must be cognizant of when I am full... Do not over fill... take boxes home ... of even appetizer servings.. when eating out... leave room for dessert.. Grazing is my favorite way of eating now... work a crossword puzzle.. look at articles on your phone... distract yourself from "shoveling it in".... we are slim and trim... Lately I came down with Prostate Cancer (a garden variety) that was controlled with Radiation Oncology... verified by Mayo... but that radiation irritated urinary and bowels... that is subsiding now ... and should be normal in a month... so health challenges are always coming up... and we face them, get the best help, and keep positive... good luck... Ken
I’m so sorry this started at such a young age..I’m sure you’ve had test and had biopsy to see what kind of acid it is? I was taking acid blocking medication but it wasn’t doing any good..new doc running test to see if it’s GERD or if it’s bile acid..he said different medicine for different acid.. I go 6-7 January for my test...I hope he figures it out for me and I can pass information along to others..
I'm 82 with a failed Nissen.(causing gastropaneisis).. ironically I have a 19 yr old who has gastropaneisis but has not had a Nissen.. she is at Univ of Iowa..where she is handy to her doctors...I go to Mayo MN.. GI Dept have you been there...? Good luck.. I am so sorry for the tough row ahead...
