Has anyone had the Linz procedure and what was your experience?

How do I find a surgeon that does the LINX and also Nissan? I live in southern Oklahoma. But since I fell in June or July on my stomach. I’ve been coughing, and acid coming up the, asthma and been put on meds for asthma but that makes it worse..bad taste. But the test for acid didn’t show anything. I can’t convince the doctors to do something for me. I can’t hardly breathe and wake up choking on acid. When I can sleep. If you or anyone has suggestions I wld really appreciate it.

I lived in OK 20 years.. At least go to Oklahoma City, OU hospital.. if you can travel go further... Houston or go to Mayo in Rochester, Minnesota. Do not lie prone when you sleep. Prop yourself up at least with a wedge pillow and a few others to a 45 degree angle for your upper body.. raising the bed Head is the best so the whole mattress tilts. Don't lay down for at least 2 hours after eating. Don't eat for 3 hours before going to sleep... Don't eat fast...chew your food really well. I had a Nissen almost 5 years ago ..it was a disaster . Mayo clinic MN diagnosed my condition as post operative Gastropaneisis.. 1 in 6 Nissens fail...

I too am interested in Linx procedure. I have read many people who have had it with mixed reviews. Some love it and some people are having LINX removed. I have Barrett’s esophagus and do not take ppis anymore. I am on Pepsid instead. I was on PPI for 14 months to heal a large ulcer. But it started to affect my kidneys. I have to have another endoscopy to see if I have dysplasia from the Barrett’s esophagus. My LES sphincter is not tight so I need to make a decision. There’s many different options. LINX is one of the newer ones.

Why did Mayo turn you down?

They believed I was getting sufficient treatment from my gastro. My gastro made the recommendation that I look into the LINX. And he was 100% right!

It all depends on your insurance. My insurance wouldn't cover Mayo as it is out of network.

My 6 year old has a failed nissen fundoplication. She suffers from severe GERD that has caused damage to her lower esophagus and stomach. Her GI said no one will redo her nissen due to high failure rates. Her GI is wanting to put her on PPI's for 3-6 months then take her off and go back to zantac until symptoms return. This sounds like a horrible answer. Would she be a candidate for the LINX system? Or are there other options we aren't pursuing?
Thanks in advance

If she already has damage to the esophagus she needs the ppi's to heal it. I would get a second opinion from Mayo if you can. She needs to be on a low acid diet too. No spicy, fried, Italian,Mexican foods. No soda ever. No fruit juices of any kind. Stop eating 3hrs before bedtime. Stay away from highly processed foods which have a lot of acid in them.
Almond milk is alkaline so it's good to drink. Melon is good to eat. Baked chicken and turkey are good too. No seasoning except pink Himalayan salt which is not refined like table salt. Broccoli, aspergus, green beans, Lima beans, peas, Brussel sprouts. Sorry to hear she has this at such a young age.

So sorry to hear this about a 6 year old!! I had a nissen in 2013... it was too tight and broke down. Then had a toupet fundoplication in 2015... which is a partial wrap. That didnt work either. Still suffering! Can't eat. Can't throw up. Full of adhesions. Positional pains. Can't gain weight back. Was 140 at surgery, now 105. (195 when I first started getting ill in 2009.) I REGRET both surgeries!! Please get all info you possibly can before having ANY other procedure. My next option is Mayo, but the damage is already done and I don't see life improving much... I am 58.

I am now 82, Had a failed Nissen 5 yrs ago... went to Mayo 2 months after the Operation because the locals could not figure out what was wrong... I lost 50 pounds by then... Mayo GI department doctor figured out what was wrong in a few hours..(Gastroparesis) and 3 tests... saw the nutritionist there ... The mayo doc prescribed 2 drugs... a Nexium generic.. and a mild anti-depressant (Mirtazapine) sp... that is supposed to make me want to eat... Eating is still a challenge.. everytime .. one has to be soooo slow.. so careful... cut up in tiny bites, chew very well, get used to your whole system working differently... Trail mix is my snack friend ... I eat it a lot...Ice cream... a little butter... but now I am 173 pounds..male, 5'10"..... so gained back about 25 pounds... If food gets "caught" it comes up with a foam easily... but that happens less and less frequently as time goes on ... One has to drink a lot of water.. as the water generated by the gastroparesis needs to be accounted for...I sneeze some when eating certain things...I drive my car when meeting folks.. so I can leave when I need to... because of GI issues.... when I eat I must be cognizant of when I am full... Do not over fill... take boxes home ... of even appetizer servings.. when eating out... leave room for dessert.. Grazing is my favorite way of eating now... work a crossword puzzle.. look at articles on your phone... distract yourself from "shoveling it in".... we are slim and trim... Lately I came down with Prostate Cancer (a garden variety) that was controlled with Radiation Oncology... verified by Mayo... but that radiation irritated urinary and bowels... that is subsiding now ... and should be normal in a month... so health challenges are always coming up... and we face them, get the best help, and keep positive... good luck... Ken
