I had a Reclast infusion 2 weeks ago and I am having lots of pain in my body, however, I do have Fibromyalgia for many years. Have anyone experience this before. This was my first Reclast infusion.

My symptoms started out with flu like symptoms, which was expressed that this could happen. Two weeks later both shoulders and left foot would like lock up on me and wake me 5-6 times a night. Then a bit of difficulty breathing, side ache and nausea developed. Most recently blurred vision and this constant electrical shock if I move just right and/ or cough. I have been going to physical therapy biweekly for over a year. Not sure how much longer VA is going to authorize my going there as my original issue that sent me to physical therapy were my shoulders and left foot. They bother me constantly but the pain has either lessen some or I’ve become accustomed to the pain and discomfort. I’m sorry that I ever received the infusion. I was feeling fine prior to the infusion. I was told that I have the onset to osteoporosis and required this infusion or I could start fracturing my bones. I was 67 when I received the infusion; 69 now and have never fractured a bone. For my age I feel that I have always been quite active, worked up to 66 1/2; full retirement age. A lot of men my age had already retired! The pain and discomfort can be and often is quite exhausting and irritating! One needs to remember this and take time out when needed and not allow the frustration funnel into one’s relationships; it is not their fault for the decision that I was talked into! Not sure at this point if this pain will ever go away! One thing for sure! No more infusion for me! None! I’ve had bladder cancer 5x over a 14 year period from taking Zantac and have had Ankolosing spondylitis for better than 50 years; retired and now this! Hopefully your experience with this crap is short lived! Best of luck to you!

I'm sorry you are having pain. A side effect of Reclast can be widespread body pain, including bone, muscle, or joint pain, which can occur from one day to a few months after starting the medication.

I have fibromyalgia which is managed successfully with LDN, low-dose naltrexone. I've read that any stress to the body can trigger a flare, so it's possible your fibro has flared up too. I hope things get better.

Thanks for the information. You have confirmed what I was thinking, which is that most likely the Reclast has caused a Fibromyalgia flare-up. I hurt all over, but the only medication that is prescribed for the Fibromyalgia is generic klonopin. After so many years of being on the medication it doesn’t help. I hope and pray that the pain subsides and it won’t last for months. Again, thank you for providing the I formation and mangy blessings. Pastora

please consult with your doctor team. My position is that those of us who get horrid side effects NEED the infusions and it acts out in a response which causes our bodies to "flare," especially when we have underlying issues like the "inflammatory" kind. My reaction was horrid for 3 days, but I am going back. They will lower the dose, slow down the infusion, and put me on Tylenol before I go in. Only 1/100 of the .01 people who have these side effects have them again. Drink lots of fluids and exercise (even gentle walking), and check for things like high uric acid levels. The worst part of my reaction was exactly where I have the worst of my arthritis. Makes me tend to believe my body had a severe response, which correlates to my osteoarthritis, gout, and fibromyalgia.

Thanks for the information. I truly believe that the Reclast infusion activated a flare up of my fibromyalgia, as well as the body parts that I have osteoarthritis. My concern is that it’s been 3 weeks and the pain has increased. When I was given the infusion it took 45 minutes and they also gave me IV fluid. I’ll be happy when the pain subsides and I could exercise. Again, thank you for responding. It makes me feel that I am not the only one with pain from the infusion.

@pastora have you checked to make sure you don’t have gout? Have you had vaccines for Shingrex? There are things hiding in our joints and things like Reclast, provoke and inflammatory response. I had misdiagnosed osteoarthritis for 30 years and the gout went undiagnosed because of it. A simple uric acid blood test let you know..

@pastora In 2021, I got fibromyalgia after a bout with Covid. Two years ago, I started taking LDN low-dose naltrexone. It was a miracle for me, reset my body and my fibro pain and insomnia were greatly relieved. I got my prescription from a pain clinic, but since learned many GPs are being informed about LDN and will prescribe it. If you have any questions, please let me know.
