Stomach problem
I've been having an upset stomach between meals and in the middle of the night. Also bloating starts in the morning and gets worse as the day goes on. My last meal of the day is usually before 6pm. I do take an acid reducer. don't smoke or drink. 78-year-old male. Any ideas what is causing this?

Hi, @bjtobs - your upset stomach between meals and in the middle of the night does not sound fun or like it would promote good sleep.
When you say stomach upset, do you mean abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting or something else?
Thanks for your reply. Mostly abdominal pain. It gets a little better after I eat. So I'm usually snacking between meals.

I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling with digestive issues. Do you have a gastroenterologist? Have you spoken to your primary care doctor about your symptoms? There are so many causes of GI distress. I hope you can reach out to your doctors and get an answer soon. Good luck!

2 ReactionsYes, I have an appointment with my GI doctor but not for awhile. Hard to get an appointment. Just thought I'd check and see if anyone recognizes these symptoms.Ive been working with him on a plan to reduce my stomach acid but so far that hasn't worked.
@bjtobs - I'm tagging Connect members @lotsofpain @difrnt1 @dniel5220 @linda82 @peterose, who may have input on your bloating and abdominal pain that gets a little better after you eat.
What did your doctor have you do in the plan to reduce your stomach acid? If this doesn't work, does the doctor have a backup plan that you know of currently?
@bjtobs I am curious on your statement
"Mostly abdominal pain. It gets a little better after I eat. So I'm usually snacking between meals."
Is it pain or discomfort? Where is it located? Have you been keeping a diary of your eating schedule and what foods you are eating? If it "gets better after you eat. What are you eating?
Maybe for stomach acid you can try chamomile and peppermint tea after you eat and drink an hour before bedtime.

1 Reaction@bjtobs Do you drink coffee? I found by switching to a low acid coffee, my indigestion nearly disappeared. I just buy Simply Smooth by Folgers, which you can get from Walmart, but health food markets have more of a variety .

2 ReactionsNo, I haven't had coffee for years. No caffeine.
@bjtobs Well, anytime someone has weird GI issues I think of Alpha Gal, and it's caused by a tick bite. It makes you allergic to mammalian meats. It's a simple blood test your regular Dr. can do and you can at the very least rule it out. It's often an overlooked issue and is highly underdiagnosed and most people have no idea what it is, but more and more people are being diagnosed. It's a serious allergy and it only requires dietary changes.
