Osteonecrosis/ Avascular necrosis

Posted by coramayo @coramayo, Oct 13, 2022

I have Osteonecrosis/ Avascular necrosis with unknown etiology. I have had 4 joints collapse , both shoulders and. Hips. Currently in early stages in both knees and possibly other joints.
Looking for a knowledgeable doctor to manage medication treatment like possibly blood thinners and cholesterol reduction medication to help blood to bones. I’m in New York area.
Any recommendations?

I have had both shoulders, hips and knees replaced due to AVN. All the surgeries were a roaring success.I was in my 40s and very early 50s. I used to run marathons. Now I walk half-marathons. Nothing to do for AVN but surgery. Experience taught me that delaying surgery only means a longer time in pain.

What is your diet, to begin at the basics for good joint health? When I gave up sugar in my diet, I could actually feel the improvement in my joints without any additional medicines so it seems to me that I should recommend this as a basic treatment, and then look for medication which does not cure but aids in lessening pain. Certain exercises improve muscle strength around the joints, but that recommendation needs to come of the therapist who knows your particular condition better. Patients need to look to a balanced and improved diet as a starting point, even though sometimes it is a little late to prevent replacement.

@dorisena I was wondering if there are exercises that one could do to improve blood flow to the hip joint? Maybe address avascular problems in a preventative way?
