HBOT therapy for radiation cystitis

Posted by 403211th @403211th, Dec 3, 2024

Has anyone done hyperbaric oxygen therapy for radiation burn in the bladder? My doctor says it is the best option for me, But I am claustrophobic. To lay in an eclosed tube for an hour a day or twice a day is blowing my mind. I would try this in a heartbeat if it was not for that. Has anyone had this and how was it?

I have completed 40 sessions of HBOT for radiation cystitis. I am reserving judgement at present, they said it can take 2 months after the final session to work properly, hopefully it will. It was medically supervised with a Doctor and nurses. I was covered with my medical care in Ireland. Hopefully it has helped in other areas, best of luck.

I'm starting HBOT next week for radiation proctitis. The chamber I'll be in is mostly clear, and I have the choice to take a book or watch TV or movies for the two hours. I have to schedule carefully because I spend a lot of morning time in the bathroom. I'm planning and praying to avoid incontinence during those two hours.

@negmol Hi I did 80 hours in the hyperbaric chamber I purchased. It was 1 hour a day, 5 days a week. The chamber cost me less than going to the place that was closest to me. The place would not except Medicare insurance. It was a mild pressure chamber only 3.2. I had to do more treatments because of it. I have to say it absolutely worked. I no longer have any blood or problems with bleeding. I am planning on starting more treatments to see if it helps with incontinence. When I was bleeding the doctor had put a catheter in for 10 days before I could see a specialist and that ruined my holding urine. I have heard it is suppose to help. I hope they are right.

Read your comments and encouraging news about solving your bleeding problem. Would you let me know how it goes with your bladder issue. There are so many out there that are experiencing the same problems. It really would be helpful if it works or doesn’t. Thanks

@jime51 Wouldn’t there be some sort of ‘facility’ just in case you had an acute attack? I mean, that’s the whole reason you’re there, right?

I was also in a clear acrylic tube, no problem with claustrophobia. HBOT seems to have solved the problem.

@heavyphil The issue is that the chamber is pressurized to 2.5 atmospheres, like a deep dive ("dive" is their nickname for these sessions). Bringing you up/out slowly enough so you don't get the "bends" takes 10-15 minutes, and you're simply lying back/down in a clear tube. I'm pretty much back and forth to the bathroom during 4:30-10 A.M., so I've scheduled my sessions for 11A-1P and will wear an adult diaper as backup.

Yes I have done the HBOT chamber. I had the same problem with bleeding. I could not lift anything over 15lbs. and I would bleed. Or have a hard stool movement I would bleed. It has cured me. I did the mild chamber which I purchased. I would of had to travel 200 miles to get the hard chamber treatment which would of consisted of 40 to 60- 1hour treatments. I had done a lot of research about the chambers. I had to do 80 hours of treatments because it was the mild chamber. I am also very claustrophobic. I got a prescription for lorazepam from my Doc. I only had to take 1 for the first 4 times I was in it. After that it did not bother me anymore. The nice thing was the one I purchased I could sit in it in a chair and use my I-Pad to keep me occupied. You only have to breath oxygen thru a mask which I also purchased with the chamber, which produced 90-95% pure oxygen. I must say I was very skeptical about it working. I have to say it really worked for me. The really nice thing about it was I could sit at home and do the treatments which I did 1 hour a day 5 days a week. I can truthfully say it done the job for me!
