11 year old daughter constant vomiting for 6 months now
Please help. My daughter is 11. Had 1 period at age 9 for 3 days. Nothing since. Had a body image for about 1 week last year. Shes been diagnosed with adhd, anxiety, dyslexia across the board. It started in January. She started having pain in the pit of her stomach amd spre throatand feeling like her thrpat was swelling shut. Then throwing up every time she eats. First they thought stomach bug. Then strep then did antibiotics while waiting on a throat culture because the strep tests kept coming back negative. It never got better went back to doctor and was placed on reflux medication. No improvement. Went back because it wasnt improving and she started staying tired all the time as well and sharp pains felt like going to heart. Done blood work and ekg all normal. Told to go to psychiatrist that it was probably worsening anxiety and trouble eating from having body image ossues the year prior. Referred to ot eating and therapy. Still doing psychiatry, ot feeding, and therapy and also raosed anxiety and depression meds. and no improvement. Barely got into van from school and got out of car falling to the ground screaming in pain and throwing up and choking on it.went to er given nausea meds and labs all normal sent home after she cried and beoke down because its been months like this and crying begging for them to help her and asking why doctors wont care. She evan said what is she bangs her head on the glass door and goes to a psych room will they care to help her then. Still in pain and worsening with a little bit of blood in throw up. Went to peds er and given gi cocktail and nausea meds all labs normal. Referred to gi and sent back to doc. Doc said get into gi asap and try different reflux med because she lost 4lbs in 1 month and sent off for celiac and tick bite alpha gal in case. Back to psychiatrist and put on cyproheptadine at night to make hwr feel like eating because she had no appetite. Labs came back normal. Placed on reglan to check for delayed emptying while we wait. No improvement. Now we have the feeling of having to eat so fast and constantly. If we try to get her to pace she starts shaking and says she has to eat and eat and eat til she gets sick and tired and falling asleep constantly now. Placed on nutrition shakes cant keep down either. Got into gi and done more labs, gi upper xray, and scope. Took off reglan and put back on pepcid liquid started on levsin for cramping and still nausea med. All have come back normal with just a mild gastritis. Told no need for gi. Check up as needed. Ot is now worried she has got a binge eating disorder. Gonna talk to Psychiatrist and therapist about it and see if they are trained with eating disorders. Had a hard stool so bad was bleeding. Placed on miralax and senna. Psychiatrist said could be from cyproheptadine and didnt take it serious. Stopping the cyproheptadine med recheck in 4 weeks. Now the biopsys from scope are back told to stop senna. Do famotidine as needed, continue levsin and zofran as needed, go to psychiatrist and continue treatment. Shes so depressed with all this and even being sent home from school from it. The er even wrote a note for the nurse to not send her home unless a fever. A teacher wouldn't even let her leave the room and accused her of faking to skip class so doctor notes were wrote for that. Shes even had some thoughts of self hard, but never acted on it, and 1 black out, and panic attacks. Then she doesn't remember afterwards a black out or why she had a panic attack. PLEASE HELP......im so worried and im a mom and I cant fix the hell my kid is going through. PLEASE!!

Has she had a CT or MRI of upper neck, chest, and abdomen,Endoscopy of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum and a colonoscopy? Has she been checked for the normal things like obstruction somewhere in the Gastrointestinal tract upper or lower or other GI condition. Some impairment of blood flow to her organs from a tumor, pressing on her abdomen. Could be found in CT or MRI. Think out the box! If it’s mental, Have her learn about nutrition and how the body uses nutrients to grow and be healthy and because most of what the media puts out there is self love and glorification the nutritionist can tell her since the skin is the largest organ nutrition is necessary for glowing skin. Also teach her about inner character, that is far better than outward perfection( the sick worlds standards)Remove her from any Media that puts lies into her head. I think Drs see so much anorexia and Bolemia even at ages younger than 11 they tend to stop thinking it’s physical if the basic test are ok. You can change GI Drs. You may have to go to some type of big GI teaching hospital. In Houston we have the Hiuston Medical center. You are the parent and she is still a child, you’re your child’s advocate. I would make 100% sure there wasn’t some physical problem before calling it mental. You know your child. Usually there were Red flags way before if it’s mental. Do your research. Make healthy eating and being healthy mentally a way of life just not for your child but for your whole family. Also ask God for guidance. Pray for God to heal your child, pray for wisdom and direction. I’m sorry all of his is happening to your child. I have prayed for her.

1 ReactionNo ct or mri. Did do xrays and ultrasound to. Also checked gallbladder and common bile duct. The gi xray with a chalk type drink checked for reflux and blockages, but nothing there either. The food doesn't even look digested when it comes up. The endoscopy and scope checked all upper stuff as well and just showed mild gastritis from the biopsys. Im doing more research and going to be making more calls. Thank you so much for the prayers as well as the comment. I really appreciate it. We feel so lost. I know the Lord can heal and that we do t go through anything he thinks we cant handle. It's just hard not being able to fix it as a mom. Please keep the prayers coming. We really appreciate it.

2 ReactionsHas she been checked for gastroparsis? His is not the same test used for reflex or Gerd.
It is done in a hospital as out patient. They scan stomach and then have you eat something and it has a camera. They watch you digest it.

2 ReactionsMy heart is breaking for your daughter and for all that your family is going through. I am praying right now for the Great Physician to intervene.
I wish doctors could just admit when they don't know! Every one has a different "opinion" of what's going on and what is needed. It's no wonder the child is having such a difficult time with her small body being manipulated with medicine.
I was wondering, was her gallbladder checked at any time during the early vomiting? My step daughter had this and lost a lot of weight in a short period of time. The doctor kept insisting there was nothing. Finally, a test was ordered for GB, she was scheduled for surgery and I was thankful.
God bless your family. I pray for correct answers and complete healing.

1 ReactionJust a suggestion, because she has all the symptoms of a vascular compression. I had Mesenteric Artery Ligament Syndrome with the same symptoms, went through so, so many tests, had my gall bladder removed and still had the knife stabbing pain in my epigastric area. It was on this site that I found MALS. I then, found a group on Facebook-Mals Awareness that helped me through getting a diagnosis. If it is a vascular compression, know that the pain is real-it’s like having pancreatic cancer pain. I’m praying for your little girl, it’s so hard especially for younger patients. My heart goes out for you and your family.

Welcome to Mayo Connect!
I’m so sorry to hear what your daughter is going through!
I agree with checking for MALS- celiac artery compression. Causes intense pain after eating. I have been dealing with that. Tests done are Doppler ultrasound and GI CT angiogram.
Second- She has seen GI and been biopsied. Did they test for Helicobacter? It’s a bacteria that can cause gastritis and ulcers.
Third- CT/MRI of head. Vomiting can be caused by abnormalities in the brain.

They only tried reglan meds and said if it didnt work it would not be gastroparesis
I’m truly sorry for your pain, seeing your young child going through such a rough time, you have tried everything to find help for her as well as psychiatric support. I was concerned that you mentioned she has an eating disorder, chronic vomiting after eating can perhaps be attributed to this particular disease, she is quite young and it’s probably unlikely to because it starts closer to the teenage years. The disease is called Bulimia, not sure that I spelled it correctly but it’s a very brutal situation where the person has to force themselves to vomit but after a while it will happen automatically. I have known someone I love who went through this and she also went through profound testing never divulging the truth, I sincerely hope that you find the answers to this sad situation, God bless you and keep her safe.
Whilst I don't really know how the American health system works, i have a few suggestions. I live in in the UK and receive treatment under NHS. For 5 years I was vomiting literally everything I ate. I lost 30 kg in 4 months. I was hospitalized numerous times due to the severity of my symptoms, which resulted in dangerously low potassium levels. I had a number of feeding tubes. I had every test you could possibly think of, and tried on dozens of meds. I also had severe abdominal pain and alternating bowel habits. The hospital I was under one day told me there is nothing more they can do medically for me. To cut a very long story short, I started going through my medical files. I noticed they completely ignored my reflux. So they put me on omeprazole. Didn't work. So I told them I want a second opinion. I was referred to one of Britain's leading neuro-gastroenterologists at a major teriatry center. they sent over all my scans, colonoscopy's, gastroscopies, barium swallows, x rays, CT, mri's, and even the brain scans as mamabear06 mentioned above. However they didn't send over the reports of impedance and manometry studies. So I brought them along myself. The gastro dr immediately told me this is it, hiatal hernia, severe gord, loose spincher and secondary rumination. Immediately started me on Rabeprazole, baclofen and Famotidine. Things improved somewhat. Underwent hypnotherapy. redid scans and studies. Sent for Nissen fundoplication and I couldn't be happier about the results. So, get the brain scans. Get the Impediance and manometry studies done. ask for a second opinion. I can only hope this gets sorted quickly. I know just how hard this is, with ppl saying I was crazy when I wasnt and telling me its all in my head when it wasnt. Its painful, both emotionally and physically!
