Mouth sores after radiation: Nothing seems to help cracked tongue
Has anyone had to deal with mouth sores after having radiation. Spouse had total thyroidectomy and neck dissection. Followed up with a dose of liquid radiation because her one vocal cord was paralized, which complicates swallowing pills. This was performed 18 months ago and her tongue is still cracked and sore. Several mouth sores on the gum as well. Doctors and dentists have prescribed many things but it does not cure the sores, only tries to reduce the pain. Fluocinonide, Fluconazole, Lidocain, Odansetron, and magic mouthwash were prescribed. Showing a picture of her cracked and white tongue.

Oh dear I too had this .I found salt water ,not strong to start with helpful and i got some SM 23 gel from the pharmacy, the kind you put on baby's gums
It numbs the area where ulcers are and then swish your mouth. Dr should have given you a script for lidocaine month rinse and you can swallow this and helps with throat issues
Also buy some numb it cream from pharmacy for rubbing all over your neck or anywhere its sore
Get lots of icy poles ,suck as many as you want

6 ReactionsA friend who had open ulcers in her throat from a clinical trial recommended something called Healios Powder. It was created by oncologist.
Two other things rhat can help soothe - aloe juice, get it in the refrigerator section of your produce department. The other is honey in a warm liquid. It has been used for millennia to heal burns and wounds due to its high get antioxidant content. The darker the honey the higher the antioxidant content. Also, if you've had recent chemo, avoid unprocessed honey as some contain botulins.

6 ReactionsI had mouth sores during chemo- I rinsed with the over-the-counter Orajel Antiseptic Rinse, and Colgate Peroxyl, and rinsed with baking soda-
Plain Kefir gave me some relief as well-

2 ReactionsI still have mouth blisters and sores after radiation treatment for my cancer. My dentist asked me to use "Biotene" and it works.

2 ReactionsDry mouth, tongue symptoms as cracking are far too common in cancer treatment. Try either PerioScience AO ProVantage gel or Moisyn... Amazon. Start 3-4x per day .. give it time.... Most effective .

2 ReactionsI'm 7 weeks done from radiation to neck and everyday my throat starts to hurt and ulcers appear some days are worse than other what causes this when it gets real bad i take pain pills

I’m not having radiation. But chemo makes my mouth very dry. The only thing I’ve found to help is drinking Gatorade. I drink the kind with sugar not artificial sweeteners as they make my stomach hurt.
They do sell artificial saliva. I’ve not been using that.
I’ve also used a compound mouthwash when o had a mouth sore. It had a numbing agent as well other things. I used it three times and the mouth sore went away. The nurses also advised a gargling with a warm salt water mix, just like my mom used to do when I had a sore throat.

2 ReactionsI have terrible dry mouth from meds to where my teeth now are implants-just destroyed them. If found this gel and am a wild eyed believer…it literally soaks into your mouth and is such a relief! I think someone ought to let Mayo Clinic about this gel to have available for patients…in my humble opinion
