Interested in more discussions like this? Go to the Prostate Cancer Support Group.

Have they made a specific diagnosis yet as to the reason you’re experiencing this? (Is it a UTI, prostatitis, or something else?)

Other remedies if having pain and burning during urination (dysuria) caused by radiation treatments:
> Avoid fruit juice, smoothies, etc. anything with citric acid.
> Try OTC NSAIDs (Ibuprofen/Alleve/Advil/Naproxin/Motrin).
> Try Prescription NSAIDS (Celebrex)
> Try Medrol dose-packs (steroids)
> If it’s radiation cystitis, could try hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

As always, check with your doctor about these remedies first.

(I had 28 fractions of proton radiation + 6 months of Eligard; didn’t experience that issue.)

One person in this forum said that Uribel really works to stop burning while peeing.

Ask your doctor about this.

I had severe burning from 3rd week of 4 week photon radiation. I was peeing a lot of blood for 2 days. I was asked to take AZO first along with Tamsulosin for 3 days followed by just Tamsulosin for 4 weeks to slowly recover from burning. I tapered slowly the Tamsulosin 4 weeks after radiation. I have very little on and off burning. I was told to restart Tamsulosin in case burning recurred

For those that don’t know Tamsulosin is Flowmax.

It is frequently used for multiple radiation issues with urine flow.
