If you’re not having any problems with Xgeva Then continuing it makes sense. It’s only for two years. One of the people I know who is sort of an expert in this says that once that two years are up, you should take Zometa for one time, and it will lock in all the benefits Xgeva Provides.

Zometa has a much lower chance of causing osteonecrosis. You could ask your doctor about using it instead. My oncologist had me use it because of that reason. You could also use Fosamax Which has a much lower chance of problems, It’s a pill you take once a week.

I was on Fosamax For six years and then had Zometa for two years. My DEXA seems good and I’ve had no jaw bone problems.

@jeffmarc - My problem, Jeff is that I have had jawbone issues for as long as I can remember. This includes 2 bone grafts that were only partially successful. I consistently deal with loose teeth resulting from pocket deterioration. Not a poor home care thing, my jaw is just built that way. That's why I'm so leery of any meds where ONJ is a possible side effect. I haven't started the drug yet and I'm pretty sure my dentist is going to veto doing so. We'll see on Friday.
