I just finished 6 instillations of chemo/Gem, Docetaxes last week and 3 days later started with chills and UTI symptons. Just had a blood test done and it shows I am fighting an infection. Going today to get urine analysis, but since I have had so many over the past year and a half, including cultures, I asked for a PCR test which indicates bacteria. But was told, that test is not commercially available. Then I read about molecular testing which looks for bacterial DNA, but again, my doctor didn't respond to that.
I spent over year with UTIs, urine cultures, every antibiotic under the sun, until finally the bladder cancer diagnosis after an cystoscope.
I thought, the chemo treatments would take care of UTIs, but apparently not. I will continue researching possible tests, and where I can get them done, I am not willing to live with constant UTIs and no more quality of life.

@hummelb99 Hi, I almost always would get a UTI from the use of the catheter after my Gem/Doc. I keep a supply of Cephalexen just for this purpose.
Recently my GP suggested I take a preventative dose, 1 daily during the Gem/Doc treatments.
I have a good supply of these antibiotics at the ready.
But my Urologist suggested I use Hiprex which is a UTI suppressant & not an antibiotic, so will go with that to see how that works.
I know how distressing this can be.
Good luck
