Waterproof Ostomy Protectors : Any recommendations for swimming?
Does anyone have a recommendation for what type of water protector I should get for my Ostomy so I can go swimming and keep it dry.
Thank you

@pidge32 you don't need to keep your ostomy appliance dry - its already waterproof. I swam on a masters swim team and did hour long workouts in the water without any problems with the ostomy pouch. I also did meets, so I would do a start from the block without any problems. I wear a snug one piece speedo to keep the bag from flopping around.
If you have an appliance that has tape, you might try wiping the tape with barrier wipe to "waterproof" it. I use 3M Medipore tape to picture frame my appliance before swimming because it doesn't have any tape and the edges get gummy.
I always suggest, if you are unsure how your appliance will do in the water, to fill the bathtub up and sit in it with water over your appliance. See how it does in the home environment.
I've been in and out of the water for up to 10 hours while scuba diving without trouble, and if I am going to be in the water that long I use SureSeal, which is a clear plastic tape made by Active Lifestyle Products https://alpglobal.com/

Thank you !

So I don’t have to be concerned about my barrier getting wet and having a leakage problem?
@pidge32 it should not be a problem as Susan has noted. What do you do when you shower? I have never covered mine while showering or swimming. Although I do have a paper tape frame rather than a colloidal one.
Figure it this way: what do you think your body is putting on it inside the pouch? It’s a lot harder on the product than water will ever be. But a sure seal for a piece of mind might make you feel better about it. Get out there and enjoy the water!

2 Reactions@pidge32 I havn't ever had a problem. But if you sit in the bathtub for a while you can see what it does, and you may want to picture frame your barrier with fabric or colloid tape.
Got to get you back to water aerobics!
