Anyone have severe penile shrinkage from Lupron and radiation?
Doctors do not discuss or prewarn patients of this possible (probable) side effect. The internet shows some discussion, but nothing about doctors warning a patient before selecting Lupron and radiation over prostate removal surgery. Related articles say that because the subject is an embarrassing subject, the topic is usually avoided by both the patient and the doctor. Considering doctors do not discuss the subject even after it occurs, does anyone know of an agency or medical center that can help reverse this unfortunate side effect?

Excellent summary!
Just to add a few remarks about my own experience. I experienced some penile shrinkage as a result of starting Lupron (T < 3) and not using a vacuum pump or Cialis/Viagra to increase blood flow to my penis. My understanding is that penile shrinkage is directly related to prolonged lack of erections (nocturnal and daytime) such that the spongy penile erectile tissue undergoes atrophy over time. This can be ameliorated by regular stretching of the tissue using a vacuum pump, Cilais, and Trimix if needed. I regained some size when I discontinued Lupron and was put on Testosterone Replacement Therapy by my MO. I also began regularly using a vacuum pump, 5mg Cialis daily and Trimix a couple of times a week. With the Trimix I was able to achieve an erection sufficient for penetration.
I experienced fatigue, hot flashes, muscle loss, depression, loss of body hair and some joint pain while my testosterone (T) was near zero as a result of one year on Lupron and an additional year off Lupron but T didn't recover. As you point out, the symptoms are due to a lack of T, not the actual drug (ADT) itself. Symptoms rapidly disappeared when my T was restored.
As the original poster stated, the shrinkage is insult added to injury. It can be reversed to some degree in most cases from what I have read. All therapies for achieving an erection are becoming increasing ineffective for me. So, I am scheduled to have a penile implant placed later this month. Extensive reading on blogs (franktalk.org extensively discusses ED and treatments) and consultation with urologists indicates men can regain lost size over time with regular use of a penile implant. I will report on my anecdotal experience in the future. Good luck!

1 ReactionI have had some shrinkage- not a great deal but noticeable...(kinda like a driving thru Mexico once having taken 2 black Mollys..wrinkles on wrinkles and lethargic behavior)
I have only taken Big Dan out once for some play in a year...we did ok...but I found myself thinking of designer purses.. and scarf combos...and he lost interest late in the game but we were mostly done !
So right now ride is closed for repairs...hopefully to re open next spring, bigger and better..and not as messy !
I take 5mg Cialis daily for blood flow and use a vacuum device after showering to stretch penile tissue. Hoping to minimize shrinkage and offer better recovery when I finish treatments.

"Based on available information, the penile shrinkage is likely irreversible."
Here's a bit of some grounds for optimism.
I had an extreme diabetic attack some years back, out of the blue, untreated for some weeks and then treated and, fortunately but poorly understood, it largely went away! But directly after treatment one side-effect I discussed with the endocrinologist was, "Hey doc, the equipment isn't doing anything, is this expected, should we do something about it?"
All I got out of him was a stone face and a shrug. "See if it gets better", he said. Well, after a few weeks it did. Since it wasn't doing anything what I saw is "shrinkage" only at rest. Once it finally started operating again it seemed about the same as ever, and the extreme shrinkage at rest was relieved, too.
FWIW
Should they know about this, and warn you about this, and advise you about this? Well yeah. But doctors in all areas hate to warn patients about anything or they get a lot of people who become hypochondriacs and think they immediately have every side-effect mentioned. And so patients with so many conditions do an outside consult with Doctor Google or Doctor GPT. At least the price is right.

I am 6 weeks out from my implant by Dr Dashan Patel. He had me use a penile traction device “Restorex” 45 min in the morning and afternoon for 4 months along with vacuum device “Vacurect”with no rings. I gained back a little over 1/4” per month in SPL”
“stretched penile length” for a total of over an inch. By the time I had the implant I was back to my old self and am quite happy with the implant and penile length. Good luck with your procedure, it is sure nice to be done with shots that did not work well for me anyway.
