Rectal pain from disc herniation at L5-S1?
According to my most recent MRI I have “Shallow broad based posterior disc protrusion abutting the ventral aspect of the traversing S1 nerve root. “
Has anyone experienced pain in the rectal area, pelvic floor from this type of herniation? What did you do to relieve the pain? What type of specialist did you get help from?
Thank you!

hi, laurenthewise1,
the S1 nerve root is part of the cauda equina. Abutting is not the same as compressing otherwise this video would be scary. https://www.youtube.com/watch Abutting is simply touching the ventral aspect. The ventral aspect is the (anterior) pathway. I would see a minimally invasive spine surgeon who may, or may not. recommend surgery, or an orthopedic surgeon, most especially if you are experiencing rectal and pelvic floor pain. Best wishes.
