My surgen said with the feed to the rectum blocked off (sewen shut) there might be a trace of some residual fecal matter and also some mucus for a while after sugery, but it should be light and stop after a while.

1 Reaction@browndognotnow It sounds like your anus and maybe your rectum is intact, and if so, the remaining intestine will still produce mucus that you would output.
Did you have your colon removed? Is the ileostomy temporary or permanent? Are there plans for something like a j-pouch?

1 Reaction@dona46 thanks, what concerns me is this is first time after 4 months. I am waiting for a call back from dr.
@susanf8 colon was removed and ileostomy permanent
@browndognotnow That sounds like a good plan.
Are there plans to remove the remaining bowel, rectum, and anus? I don't think its necessary unless you have disease in the rectum - I had Crohn's Disease, so I did have everything out, my anus removed and now I have "Barbie Butt".
@susanf8 good question. I wish I knew. My surgery was done on an emergency basis by a general surgeon in Feb. I have not been able to see a colorectal surgeon yet. On referral list but am told no apt available. VERY FRUSTRATING
