Barbra,

I'm so sorry you are having these multiple issues that you are dealing with. I have GERD ( and a hernia), NTM, COPD & Bronchiectasis, and 3 other autoimmune issues, and most recently diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy. I have always been a left side sleeper, but was finding it more difficult with my multiple lung issues, causing coughing and needing to clear my lungs of mucus. My husband and I made the expensive decision to purchase an adjustable electric King-size mattress. A friend who has an adjustable electric split King-size strongly advised me not to get the split mattress because changing the sheets is so difficult. Unfortunately, my husband does not like sleeping sitting almost straight up, so he slides down with his feet hanging off the bed. I now sleep almost straight up with a pillow I purchased from Amazon that fits my neck nicely. I am now a back sleeper, but I seldom have coughing issues at night, or the burning chest issues from the GERD, and NO sliding down during sleep. I found that, even when stacking pillows, I would still slide down while sleeping. I've read it is not good for anyone to sleep flat on their backs. I try to never eat, at least, 3 hours before bedtime, which also helps with the GERD and/or silent reflux.

I realize buying an adjustable electric mattress is not a realistic, feasible, or affordable option, but it has made a huge difference in my life and sleeping. As a person who has fought insomnia for decades, I knew I had to do something drastic to get some much needed rest.

I wish you the best of luck in finding a solution to your issues.

Take care, stay safe, and good luck.

Cathie

@ccdb Cathie, thank you for your time in responding.
I almost would rather sleep straight up.
I have been wanting to purchase a neck pillow and will do that first and see how that helps with just using the wedge and a pillow vertically on the wedge....with the neck pillow.
I have looked at the adjustable beds and will probably give more thought to it also since reading the posts and knowing that it does help especially with COPD. Mother was very pleased after we brought in the adjustable bed due to her emphysema.

@ccdb May I know what you bought from Amazon. I'm in the same issue, finding what might be the best pillow although I piled up 3 pillows.
