Recurrence of breast cancer after 17 years

I had a masectomy 17 years ago, no radiation or Hormone therapy. I just had surgery to remove a 1.1cm tumor I found in my scar tissue. I am 71 years old with HER2 negative, Stage 0, Hormone Receptor positive. I don't want radiation. In everything I am reading, the only reason I should get radiation is because my cancer came back. The oncologist told me I will have "slight" lung damage. Does everyone get lung damage? Also, my replaced implant might get hard for live? Has anyone experienced that?

I'm 63 and a 20 yr survivor of breast cancer. I had a sentinel node biopsy that was clear so I did not have to have radiation or chemo. I only had medication to take. I also had a bilateral nipple sparing mastectomy with reconstruction. Recently I was diagnosed with CHF and of course x-rays were done. X-rays showed multiple nodules in my right lung which is the side my breast cancer was on. So now I have to see a thoracic surgeon where I guess we will discuss what comes next. I won't lie, I am a little nervous.

@bluerabbit 2 years prior to my ILC diagnosis, I had an unrelated MRI which showed multiple lung nodules, which led to a barrage of more testing & which turned out to be benign! Sending good thoughts & keep us updated!

@llthomson I had DCIS, LCIS, and ILC Sorry I don't remember the stage. My doctor at that time sent some of my tissue off for the Oncotype DX test. It came back showing low possibility of it returning. So I only had to take pills for a few years.

I had stage 1 ILC & did the 5-day radiation treatment which was very easy & no side effects that I noticed, except that my skin was slightly pink for a while. Maybe ask if there are options for which radiation treatment is best for you?

@jmab the surgeon said he didn't see any nodules, that maybe they mistake the veins or arteries. He also said that a scan for the heart is different from a lung scan. He is going to do another scan in 6 mths just to be on the safe side. So good news for me. 😀 Thank you
