@gingerw Yes thank you. I am doing the massaging now 3 times per day and hopefully that will help to break up the scar tissue. I can feel just the slightest improvement which is starting to give me some hope it will gradually soften but everyone has told me this takes a very long time. It does affect my ability to move my mouth which compounds the difficulty. Thank you again for your story and information.

@moorjan3 I'm so happy to hear this! Remember, we need to be patient with ourselves. In few days, I bet you'll be able to look back and realize there has indeed been improvement. "baby steps" as they say... Even simply placing your fingers over the area and moving your face around slightly will help, massaging the underlying tissue.

On my right forearm I have a very nasty scar area. Originally, it was the site of a MOHS surgery for squamous cell carcinoma, which healed well. My dermatologist had joked that she was able to get the stitch line between the antennae of the butterfly tattoo located there. Unfortunately, my cat had a slip-and-fall accident, using that area as a grabbing spot. My skin was horribly torn, and the resulting area took a very long time to heal. It will never be pretty again, but the gentle massage during healing helped the tightness. I automatically rub it often, even now.
