It’s worth trying. have been having alot of bone loss in my jaw, teeth loose, and loss, implants dropping out. I have read about this Pento but don’t have any idea where I can get treatment for this. Im in NYC at MSKCC, but not sure if this is considered ostoradionecrosis.
It’s described as follows:
“…a combination of pentoxifylline, vitamin E (tocopherol) and, less often, a bisphosphonate drug called clodronate. This combo treatment is often called PENTO (pentoxifylline and tocopherol) or PENTOCLO (all three drugs).

PENTO can improve blood flow to your affected bone, boost your immune system and help your bone recover. It can also help manage minor areas of ORN without you having to have surgery. We often combine these medications with antibiotics to treat infections in your bone or surrounding tissue.”

@mmqc Hello and welcome to the head and neck group.
Having suffered from osteoradionecrosis (ORN) and specifically the mandible, then getting a mandiblectomy, any alternative to that carnival ride would be welcome.
It appears through studies that this PENTO process is getting more defined to something that works well. However, one must be concerned about drug side effects as well, particularly the steroid and antibiotic protocols involved.
My personal take away is these various PENTO treatments all include large daily doses of vitamin E, an easily obtained over the counter supplement.
Because ORN affects about two percent of all head and neck cancer patients, and knowing now what I didn’t know then, I likely would have: A) found a head and neck experienced oncologist, B) taken Vitamin E, C) used nasal oxygen daily. These three items are easily done. To be clear, this is my experience opinion and not a medical opinion.
I wish you well. I hope you continue to share your experience and outcome with this group.
