I have Factor 5 and am currently on Xarelto. I don't know how long I can afford it. It's crazy expensive. The patent for it is up, but there are patents on combinations of the main part of the drug. This means the patent is not really up. Probably, maybe in the 2030's. Prayers!

@jnance030 I have Factor 5 Leiden clotting gene and am on Eliquis, which is also crazy expensive. Thank goodness, at the hospital they gave me a coupon for the first month for free. It was going to be $514. The next month I paid $249, and next month $114, and now it is more manageable at $52 a month, since I met the $355 deductible. There are programs that can help with the cost, but looked like I couldn't take advantage of any. My hematologist told me that I am going to have to be on it the rest of my life. I had a gigantic blood clot in my left leg and needed surgery to remove it. And that is when my doctor ran the Factor 5 test on me. I have read that Eliquis has fewer bleeding risks that Xarelto. Maybe ask your doc about it.
