I just started nebulizing 7% saline last week. The specialty pharmacy at the hospital filled the prescription from my Pulmonologist as they do my Brinsupri. My Medicare D did not cover it either, though Medicare DME covered my nebulizer. My cost for the saline was $21/ 60 vials/one month supply. Jeanne

@heidi0974 Saline is covered under Medicare Part B, and only under certain conditions. I would say more people pay for their own saline now than have it covered by insurance or Medicare.

@heidi0974 What brand etc. did Medicare DME cover regarding the nebulizer?
Just to be sure are you referring to the cups and tubing or the compressor?

@heidi0974 My insurance doesn't cover it either, and I've appealed twice. Aetna says it's not FDA approved! How is that possible if it's available on Amazon (a bit more expensive) and most pharmacies. Before United Healthcare canceled our Medicare Advantage plan in our area last December, they sent me my saline every month with no problem. It is just soooo frustrating.
