What does a prostate number of 7 mean?

I would ask your doctor and read the comments on your PSA lab test report that usually provide guidance for what certain PSA test values mean within certain categorical ranges. There is voluminous literature online about how <10 ng/ml or >10 ng/ml for a PSA likely does or likely does not mean something, in the diagnosis and staging of prostatic cancer...when simultaneously including the results of your Digital Rectal Exam (DRE) and biopsy results that yield what is known as a Gleason Score (if your doctor wants to do the biopsy). First step: talk to your doctor...ask questions based on what you have already read, and "your need to know" ALL information. Don't walk out that consultation appointment with any of your questions unanswered, or any of your doctor's answers not clearly understood. Don't ever be afraid to say: "I don't understand", or "will you please restate that in a simpler way that I can understand better?" Good luck.

3+4=7 Gleason is very different from 4+3=7 Gleason. NCCN.org is a key source for this type of information and doctors and patients are guided by this organization. Here is the link to patient nccn guidelines. Page 30 (of 84) shows a chart explaining Gleason scores but their is a great deal of useful information.
