Crooked leg after tibial fracture

Thanx I’ll check in to this. Fitted for a brace today that seems like it will help as far as supporting when I walk as my crooked part bows further in. I’m also walking on inside of foot. There’s a very ugly shoe to correct that but I think she said it wasn’t covered by Medicare so once she gets the “ prior authorization “ I’ll go back to get brace. I’m requesting Med records from hospital and rehab. I will look through them. I’m seriously seeing about validity of a case and will get with an attorney after I review all of that.

I wish you the best with the brace however, I would consider a second opinion on revision surgery. I completely understand and agree why you do not want it but you’ve already gone months so maybe two or three more for a better outcome would be worth it. My PEMF device has been through numerous trials to receive FDA approval specifically for fracture healing so IMO, it meets a higher standard than OTC devices bought online. Again, wish you the best and please keep us informed of your progress.

@soarus57 thank you. Wish I knew how to load a picture so you could see how severe this leg is…..not that it would make any difference. I will also contact my primary doc about prescription for device…..what is it exactly that u discussed? Medicare coverage? Another prob is that I had to pay $75/day pay to come feed horse and care for dog and cats…..better than 2 grand month! I had to tap into investments! Can’t do that anymore and surgeon says rehab and non weight bearing etc. going for 2nd opinion Altho that will lead to corrective surgery as well. Will approach an atty to see if any case since there have been a lot of issues. Anyway thanks so much.

I had a non union fractured fibula, basically a break that did not heal. Medicare paid for the device but I had to go three months without healing before they paid. The company is Orthofix PhysioStim.

@earlaexander I broke my tibia plateau in Jan 2024, my leg is crooked. It is effecting my gait, my feet, ankle. A knee replacement is inevitable for me, my surgeon wants me to wait for a year. Can you please share what kind of brace you got? I keep trying different ones and none seem to help my issues. Thanks

@blaira I will share but I don’t have it yet. It requires “prior authorization “ so have to wait for their call to go get it. The way it seems it will help is that every step you take the leg bows in more it offered what I think will be supportive. I’m walking on inside of foot as well. Medicare won’t cover a special shoe with a lift area to level foot strikes. Going to try just brace and judge if foot is improved. I have a 12 y/o knee replacement which currently is ok. The bone snapped at base of that.
I’m seriously thinking of talking to an attorney there have been several incidences that may give a case more credibility. Should hear about brace in next few days or next Monday. This brace is coming through an orthotics and prosthetics business are you being seen by one of them? Google it and see what’s in your area?

Hi, I work with an orthotist who has made my orthotics for 10 years. They help somewhat, but not completely. On my leg that bows I am having trouble towing off so I am trying to get used to the carbon fiber piece that he made to go underneath my orthotic. I don’t have a good knee brace. The off the shelf ones don’t fit, I had a custom offloading brace made that doesn’t work.

Is there any way you can send a picture of what you are looking at? I am interested to see.

I see my Dr. in a few weeks and am will talk to him about a referral.

I am damaging my other foot and knee from the pressure due to the bowing.

I don’t have brace yet requires prior authorization so I wait. . So a pic will have to wait but it is an off loading brace. I’m interested in the piece of carbon fiber under your orthotic. What orthotic do you have? Am also walking on inside of foot and she showed me an ugly shoe they can cut it and fit with a lift to support foot and allow foot to be level. Medicare won’t cover that. I’m considering filing suit as this entire thing from waiting in hospital 5 days for surgery to current with screws backing out one of which came through skin to the current day.

@earlaexander still waiting for authorization for brace. Have an appointment Wednesday with the trauma surgeon I had 7 yr ago when broke femur he is trauma doc at INOVA . I’m really not expecting a different strategy but …..

@earlaexander I wanted to share some information with you. There is hope for correcting a deformed limb. A deformed bone can be changed. I had surgery at Mayo for my ankle fracture, with an orthopedic trauma surgeon and one of his specialties is reshaping bone with external fixation. He has corrected severely deformed leg bones for patients who have had difficulty walking and lengthened limbs creating new bone. You are right to be concerned about a misaligned bone causing damage to other joints because of abnormal movements over time. New bone can be formed to lengthen limbs and Mayo has a Limb and Regeneration Clinic that addresses these issues. Here is some information.
