You don't take 2 full doses of prednisone so not "multiple doses." . If you are on 15 mg for example, you save a small portion of your dose for the evening. It helps to get you through the night without the morning 3 a.m. pain people have. If you don't have that early morning pain and your whole a.m prednisone dose lasts for 24 hours, then there is no need to split your dose.

I split my dose and actually needed less prednisone that way. If I needed 30 mg taken all in the morning as one dose, I might still wake up in pain.

When I split my dose I might do well with 15 mg in the morning and 5 mg in the evening for a total of 20 mg and I wouldn't have any morning pain.

The main reason for taking your entire dose all in the morning is to mimick how the adrenals release cortisol in order to decrease the risk of adrenal suppression. However, taking anything more than 5 mg of prednisone for more than a couple of weeks will result in suppressed adrenal function.

@dadcue I understand the two dose strategy but I was concerned at the first post’s comment about multiple times across the day. I guess I was lucky as I started on 15mg in the morning then one month later 10mg and so on for 12 months with the last month being 1mg. I’ve been free for 3 years but I don’t think the immune system ever fully recovers. Stiffness has gone this year so I feel quite normal.
