@jaki Recently diagnosed with Stage 3 and my gfr had not been flagged in ten years by my PCP. It has been so depressing because I would have taken measures to not get to 41. Since April I
Through diet changes and no more soda, my last gfr was 50. I’m frustrated and scared and grocery shopping always ends in tears. I was told no sodas, more water, limit your salt, no potatoes, no read meat and pretty much sent on my way.

@slhearn61 it is frustrating ! But—we can get creative with what foods are safest for kidneys, like veggies and fruit… protein is not necessarily forbidden, just consume less and lighter …it takes time to work out our own changes—but the good thing is your #s responded very well. That’s encouraging to anyone dealing with CKD..

Hi, I totally understand how you’re feeling! I was a complete basket case for several months. Just ask my family!!
So frustrating.
Thru my seemingly endless research, I did eventually find some useful info/guidelines.
Are your other kidney labs normal?
Mine were. So I have mainly focused on water intake, around 70 oz/day.
Decreased portion sizes of all protein. And practice meatless days several times per week. No NSAIDS except daily low dose aspirin.
I stopped obsessing over my diet. Which was very difficult for me because I’m very OCD.
I do still have the occasional soda, regular, not diet. And a glass of wine or cocktail a few times/week!
I wish you the very best of luck in this kidney journey. It’s definitely not easy and often times made more complicated due to confusing/conflicting info.
