Before I was diagnosed with lymphedema, I got scolded several times by doctors who thought my swelling was due to me not taking my Lasix. After I was diagnosed with lymphedema, I learned that swelling due to lymphedema doesn't respond well to Lasix. That said, I still take Lasix, but usually find I do well without it. You might want to ask your doctor if you should have a vein mapping done, if it hasn't been done already. That might help your doctor make a decision regarding you taking Lasix. I've found that Lymphedema not always understood and that there are conflicting ideas about how to take care of it. Personally, because I have both lymphedema and venous insufficiency, I recently decided to see a vascular surgeon who also is interested in compression therapy. Only one hospital in Kansas City that I know of performs the new microsurgeries done to help lymphedema. (Mayo Clinic offers these types of procedures, so they would be a good place to learn more.) I hope that my new vascular surgeon will be able to either give me orders to have a microsurgery at that other hospital, or perhaps can do a surgery on my veins that may be preventing the flow of lymph fluids to my torso. Re: compression socks. I only use the light compression and find they make my legs feel better. I strongly advise you to ask your doctor about the compression and type of socks you should be wearing.
